  1. I think the bills will hire a new coach, even though I think a lot of their troubles could be solved with better offensive assistants and a quarterback. The reason I believe the bills will hire a new coach is due to the fact that hiring a new coach creates excitement. The old coach becomes the scapegoat for all of the the teams problems and fans become excited by the prospect of the same talent playing for a more competent coach. The new coach will serve the same role that T.O. did last off season, he will sell season tickets. I just hope however, that we get the right guy.
  2. I know I'm stating the obvious, but it is way too early to tell what the bills should do. What people perceive the strengthes and weaknesses of the draft will change between now and then. 1st round talents today will be taken in rounds 4-7, and vice versa. Know one knows where the bills will draft or who will draft in front of them. All of that being said, it is fun to speculate, and the bills could use a good dt. It is my opinion however, that the bills should do everything in their power to get whatever qb that they have at the top of their board. Fortunately or unfortunately, I feel the bills will not be in the top 8, so they will probably have to trade up. If that doesn't work I would hope that a good ot or dt would be available. I view lb as a position that you draft in rounds 2-4, unless an Urlacher, Willis, or Lewis is there, which happens only a couple of time per decade. The first round more times than should be used for play makers and talented big men. Cbs, lbs, interior lineman can wait for later rounds.
  3. Many teams thought that Brees would be a good nfl qb. The bengals considered taking him early round 1. The Chargers traded out of 1 hoping to get him in round 2. Heck, even the bills were hoping to trade up to get him in round 2 if he slipped a little further. I don't know if Tebow will be an nfl qb, but it is not fair to say Brees was not highly regarded.
  4. In April Manjini alllows the Jets to trade way up in the draft to select Sanchez. So what does he get in return? A second round pick, and 3rd string qb, and couple of special teams players. Who moves that far down for so little. This however, was not enough. Now he trades away a pro bowl wr for a slot receiver and two conditional picks that will be no higher than 3rds. I know Edwards has sturggled, but at that price it is certainly worth the risk. I only wished that the bills had some former jets on the roster, who know what we could get.
  5. Jim Mcnally described Peters as the most dominating offensive lineman he ever coached with the exeption of Anthony Munoz who was one of the best tackles to ever play on the nfl. I think Peters struggled last year due to a lack of motivation and has had nagging injuires slow him down so far this preseason. Given a little time I would anticipate Peters returing to a pro bowl level of play. Let's face it, Jim Mcnally knows a lot more about offensive line play than anyone of this board. In fact he knows more about offensive line play than most everyone.
  6. I think with Rhodes on the roster, we may not have one 1,000 yard rusher. I could see Jackson and Rhodes finishing with around 500 each, and Lynch with 900.

  8. Kiper also said the bills have had the best draft so far. It is strange that McShay and Kiper agree, and I don't if I can trust either guy's opinion., but it is good to hear.
  9. One team told Kiper that they would have considered taking Mitchel as a free agent, and the Raiders took him in round 2.
  10. I hate when the bill draft high motor guys. It usually means they do not have the athleticism to contribute.
  11. There is some truth in your statement. He said that some teams are afraid of Monroe's knee. He did offer some of his own thoughts. Of the two, he like Monroe better. Thinks he is more athletic and has a better chance of developing into an above average to good lt.
  12. His opinions has to have more value than the others people on this board listen to. He was an actual gm, instead of a member of the media who writes a bogus mock draft without knowing anything about evaluating talent. He had good years in Washington and could have done ok in Texas if he passed on David Carr. It seems however, that people would rather listen to sources like Bob's draft site.
  13. Has anyone watched any of the top ranked tackles play? Do you think Casserly's opinions are valid?
  14. Charlie Casserly, the former gm of the Redskins and Texans was interviewed on Sirius NFL's Moving the Chains by Kirwain and Ryan. When Casserly was asked his opinion on the top two offensive tackles (Smith and Monroe), he said that neither guy was an elite talent. He then explained that if Smith and Monroe were part of last year's draft, they would have selected after Clady and Alberts. Meaning they would be mid to late round picks. Of all the opinions I have heard, I respect Casserly's the most. He was an above average to good gm who can state his opinion without bias. The fear that I now have is that Buffalo will not be able to find an Left Tackle in the draft. I'm sure a good one will emerge, but who? I also think that it is possible that this is a bad year to have multiple picks. I would not be suprised to see teams like the Patriots trade some of their picks in 2009 for 2010 draft picks. How nice would it be to have guys like Clady and Alberts available this year at 11. I hope the bills can find a star at 11, cross your fingers.
  15. You are correct. The reason that draft picks have become so valued during the salary cap era is that drafted players cost you so little. Only the top 50 contracts are used when determing a teams salary cap number. Most of the players drafted will not count anything against the cap.
  16. I have also heard that he is poor in pass coverage, so would not be an every down player. I have no idea if this is true, but have heard it from several analysts. If it is true, a lb that is not good at pass rushing and cannot cover should not be a top 10 pick. I think if he makes it past Kansas City he could fall. I would not be surprised however if someone then traded up ahead of San Fran and Buffalo to get him. Saturday should be fun.
  17. I have heard over and over again on sirius nfl radio that Parrish will go for a 4th or a 5th, which the bills will likely take. Right now the bills have more too many wrs and not enough roster spots. Evans, Owens, and Reed are the starters. Hardy and Johnson are the developing youngsters. Jenkins is a standout at covering kicks. Parrish also makes a good chunk of change. I hope they keep him, because the 2-3 game changing plays a year he makes could be the difference of making or missing the playoffs. I think however, he will be gone.
  18. Peters played his cards right. Many on the board thought that he hurt himself by missing off season workouts, training camp, and the pre-season games. It appeared that it was a brilliant move. The bills realize that he would play like until he was either traded or paid. Based on what we got for him, I would have rather paid the guy. He is very good when he wants to be. Next Saturday two of the top 3 overall picks will probably be tackles. The teams that draft them are hoping they become Peters. Getting the 28th overall pick and two lower picks was not enough.
  19. Sometimes you can learn something at the Lunch. A couple of years ago Marv asked members of the media who they thought the bills would draft in the 1st round. Most of the media offered up the obvious, Bunkley and Huff. Marv told the media that the bills pick could suprise people. At the time I thought he was bluffing. When the bills were on the clock Mortenson reported that the broncos, vikings, and eagles were all interested up to Buffalo's spot. This indicated that Marv really was targeting a suprise player. When the bills decided not to accept the broncos offer of the 14th overall, the 36th overall, and a 4th, I thought they the suprise pick was going to be Cutler. I was shocked when they took Whitner. Even though I was expecting the unexpected, I was in complete shock. Was there anything said that this year that could provide a clue to this year's draft.
  20. Every year since the new regime has come into power they have fallen in love with a player that is not worthy of their first round pick but too good to last until their 2nd. Two of the three years they were able to trade up and obtain their desired player. The exception was last year when they were unable to make a trade to get Devin Thomas. The giants rejected their offer. I think Pettigrew could be the player they trade to trade up to get this year. They will not take him at 11, but stay tuned to the draft, they could trade up.
  21. Pettigrew will not be selected by the bills because he is not even close to being the 11th best player in the draft. If he was a little faster and a little more productive he could go 11, but now it is possible he will fall to round 2.
  22. The Patriots selected their 3-4 ends very high. Seymour was a top 6 pick and Warren was selected 14th overall. Dorsey will be great as a 3-4 end. He has the size to hold the lineman up, and the quickness to rush when needed.
  23. Marv was afraid that the Lions, who wanted Huff, might take Whitner at 9. Everyone besides Marx knew that the lions really wanted Simms. Marv was also afraid the Ravens would select Whitner at 12, which would have happened if Ngata was not on the board. Marv should have traded down to 14, as it was definitly worth the risk.
