They only trade him if they do not think he is the quarterback of the future. He was a huge disappointment prior to his starts this year, but the eagles may now hold on to him to see what they have.

Williams was not a Levy pick. Jauron wanted him in round 4, but Levy insisted on Ko Simpson. When Williams was still there in round 5, Levy granted his wish and selected him.

Pike in round 2 is fine, as long as there is no qb the front office likes better in round 1. Whoever the bills feel is the best qb prospect they need to get. Many of the better qbs are good by their 2nd year, which isn't that long to wait, and many rookies could have played better than this years bills qbs. There are exceptions of course, Brees and Rodgers both took more than 2 years. We will have to see if Pike goes in round 2. I think he is just as likely to go in rounds 1 or 4. A lot will change between now and April.

To follow up my last post and respond to the threads question, the bills should take the best big man available if they are unable to get a qb. You can find good lbs later in the draft, but the first round is made for play makers and talented big men. I don't care if they end up with a lt, rt, dt, or end. The bills need to build on the lines if a qb is not there.

I am shocked that so many people do not believe that qb is the bills greatest need. The qb position is by far the most important position in team sports, and a good one can make an average unit look good. Look at how Aaron Rodgers makes the Green Bay offense look good despite playing behind one of the worst lines in the league. Look at how much better the bills line looked when Flutie replaced Rob Johnson. How many wrs has Bret Favre made look good throughout his career. It is possible that a franchise qb many not be availble when the bills draft, but if a possible franchise qb is available they need to take qb over all other options. I'm sorry, but a mlb or a dt will not turn the bills around by themselves. The risk involved in taking a qb is worth the possible reward. I just hope the bills are in a position to get one, unlike when the bills had to settle on Lee Evans after failing to trade up to get big ben.

I hate to say it, but the bills need a qb, and the more they lose the more likely it becomes that they get one. How nice would it have been to lose 1 more game the year that Big Ben was taken 9th overall by the Steelers. In addition, do you think the colts regret being god awful the year prior to drafting Manning, or the Falcons the year before getting Ryan. How about the Bengals stinking it up the year before drafting Palmer. To be fair, we have had chances. Flaco and Cutler were availabe when the bills picked. More times than not however you either get your qb early or get lucky, as the Patriots did with Brady and the Cowboys did with Romo.

I had heard that Cassel had option to hand it off or keep it if he thought it was the better option. I guess he should have given the ball to Charles.

True to a point. 1st rounders today will be 4th rounders in April and the draft order will change each week, but as a bills fan the only thing left to do is speculate about the draft, free agency, and the coaching position. What is the harm.

Since the bill are not getting any production out of him at DE, I guess it could not hurt to try him at OLB. He is not however, a LB. Many bills fans feel that OraKpo should have been the bills selection at 11, and while he has looked better than Maybin, he has really struggled. True nfl fans know that he has lost a lot of playing time recently and has been exploited by opposing defenses. Many big plays have gone against Washington with him on the field, especially in the running game. Maybin has not played LB and would struggle like Orakpo at that position. The bills best bet is work on his strength and technique. Many talent evaluators commented that Maybin was a major talent, but one that needed development. He left Penn State after his sophomore year and played at 225 pounds. While it is to early to give up on him, there is reason to have concern. The bills really need a pass rusher, so let's hope for the best.

They would just have to pay a fine. It was done before in Detroit.

Every coach has a say to some extent, but a lot of Jauron's wishes were ignored. During his first year on the job he really wanted Kyle Williams in the 4th round, but Levy loved Ko Simpson, so he was selected. It worked out that Williams lasted until the 5th, so the bills selected him.

Every management model and worked and failed in the past. Jimmy Johnson did a great job with both roles. If you are a coach/gm, you still need quality talent evaluators. As was posted earlier, the coach just has the final say on who is drafted or brought in via free agency.

If we got Bruce Allen, is there any chance that Gruden comes on board. I know he got an extension from espn, but I don't think that means he is done with coaching.

If the bills do decide to go after a gm first, I hope they get started now. There are plenty of good guys like Casserly available.

Usually an nfl team will hire a gm first, then the gm decides on who the head coach will be. Many of the top candidates however, are coaches who want to have the gm role as well, Mike Shanahan being one example. If the bills hire a gm first, they might miss out on getting a top coach. On the other hand, the bills may not have a shot at luring in a big name coach, so they would be better off hiring a gm first. So how should the bills handle filling those positions.

Teams usually don't turn it around by drafting an olb. Maybe if the defense changed to the 3-4 and the olb was a pass rusher, but the first round if for talented big men and play makers. Line backers can wait till the later rounds.

After the season is over the bills could potentially hire Weis, Romeo Crennel, and Eric Mangini. You would have a 3 coaches from the patriots super bowl team, the only question is which guy would lead.

You make some fair points, but don't forget that Gruden won the super bowl in Tampa, Dungy never did. The colts team Dungy went to was built by Polian, and in my opinion even Jauron could win with that talent.

I would go after the Bruce Allen and Gruden combo to start. Both are proven winners and available, and getting one might help you get the other. I would then invest a ton of money into scouting and realize that you may have to let a few guys go in free agency since the bills profit margin is shrinking every year. You would just have to hope that a talented scouting team would be able to draft replacements. I would keep Russ in charge of marketing, as he has done a good job of selling seats. After that you relax and let professionals do their job.

Fair point, even though a 6-10 season allowed them the opportunity to draft Big Ben.

I'm fine with letting Jauron go, I just don't want him to be the scapegoat for the bills problems. The front office needs to be replaced. The bill need a real football guy to be the gm. They need better college scouts and better pro evaluators. If the bills fans think this team will be turned around by simply bringing in a new coach, they are wrong. Jauron is the least of the bills troubles. If the bills hire a talented gm, and he fires Jauron, I will be fine with it. I just hope the rebuilding of the bills will begin with a strong gm who will take the ball and run with it.

You will continue to bang your head against the wall until the bills find more talent, especially at qb. The head coach has been scapegoat in Buffalo for years. Mularkey and Williams who were hated by the fans are now considered to be prime candidates for head coaching positions. Phillips has won a lot of games since he was let go. Even our assistants have taken unnecessary blame. Gilbride and Henning have done great things since leaving Buffalo. Three years from now, you will once again be demanding a new coach unless the bills hire more talented talent evaluators.

I really don't think that Jauron is that bad of a coach. He has had below average results with below average talent. My biggest problem with Jauron is he failure to bring in a quality offensive cordinator. If Jauron had a quarterback, he would like a much better coach. When the bills struggle next year with a new coach, Jauron will not look that bad.
