A receiver being "open" is not as simple as it appears. It's not enough to "be open" at some point; you have to be open when the quarterback is looking your way. Very often, Allen appears to be looking at Coleman, even waiting for him, then turning to his next read because Coleman is glued to the receiver or not looking back (or both). In those cases, it doesn't help if Coleman breaks free two beats later because Allen has already made his decision. That's why timing and being in synch with your quarterback is so critical. Remember all those back-shoulder throws to Diggs that were virtually impossible to defend? Allen threw half a dozen of them to Coleman early in the season, and I think he caught just one. The other times he wasn't looking back, hadn't made his break, allowed the DB to make the play, or dropped the ball. The only thing I've seen Coleman to well is climb the ladder for the ball. Throw it way above his head and he'll go get it. Route-running, slants, comeback routes, even jump balls with DBs, he's at best mediocre. Blocks ok, I'll give him that. And sometimes--not usually--he can get open on fire drills. I'm not giving up on him because who knows? But he has an awful lot of work to do.

Wow! You must have a great eye for talent to be able to judge a rookie after 30 defensive snaps with the Bills. I’m not that good, so I’ll just wait to see how he does next year. The point from @billsfan89 was our lack of elite athletes, so taking a shot at developing one doesn’t seem like a terrible idea. If he was ready to immediately perform at a higher level, he would have been drafted much sooner. Let’s give him some time and see how it goes.

So is Landon Jackson done for the year?

This guy was supposed to be a raw "high ceiling" development pick anyway, but it does hurt he's missing the chance to get real game experience his rookie year. Hopefully next year he hits his stride. It is pretty rare to pick up a day 1 good starting EDGE in the 3rd round, so I didn't hate the pick in a vacuum (although I wanted a WR or Safety there). -
Game week thread - Bengals at Bills (flexed to 1pm ET)

I agree with your take, including my thoughts every time Allen drops back to pass. It used to be I loved seeing him drop back, expecting something awesome. Now I hold my breath. I actually felt like last week would be a good barometer for the Bills—on the road against a lesser team they *should* beat—and aside from the self-destructive mistakes in the first half, I thought they passed the test well. I agree that this week is another good test—but then again, it seems like *every* week is going to just be another test. I have no doubt that the former senator from Tennessee didn't care at all about that game. -
In my opinion - which clearly you don’t care about, but I’ll play along - that would make it 58 times worse.

obviously he ain't Bruce. we need bigger lbs. seems at times there is too much paralysis by analysis. just the defense loose. -
I agree with you for the most part, though one thing I've been seeing is at least some learning as they go. Both for Brady and for Babich and the defense, especially the latter as they learn about which guys (eg, Shaq, Walker) are playing above expectations and others (eg, Benford, Hairston) are gradually improving over the course of the season. I'm more skeptical of Brady, but I was rough on him before the Steelers game and I thought he showed something to me in that one. We'll see if it sticks, or progresses.
