A healthy Oliver and Bosa going into the playoffs is essential if we were to have any chance at this thing. I hope Ed's ready for WC weekend or at least the divisional round.

A Few Thoughts about the Bengals Game - Community Edition
BobbyC81 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
It would also help if Josh, and other QBs today, put some effort into the fake handoff. In NFL history, some QBs like Boomer Esiason were excellent at it and hid the ball on their hip. On some replays you’d see a LB frozen and confused since he didn’t know where the ball was. Today, sometimes it’s just the RB running into the line. -
Kincaid has elite skills, absolutely pick up option. If an extension can be reached before that, do it. If not, extend and work on that contract. Knox can be had cheaper if he restructures again, hopefully he will. Hawes is cost controlled on a rookie contract. These three make up a good TE room and would prefer to keep them all. Knox would be the odd man out if his contract doesn’t work for the team. Easy to say all this, but need to see where his contract hit would fit the next few seasons. We are over the cap for next season already. To keep Kincaid and make the roster adjustments they need to will cost them, but it can be done. Does the team really want to spend the money to keep winning? That’s the question.

Ed Oliver posts a video doing pushups
ProcessTruster replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'll take it. Get back out there Ed. You're being paid to use your speed, quicks and push, not your 27 inch arms. go bills. -
I saw something interesting during the Bills/Bengals broadcast on Sunday. There was a shot of Brady in the booth. Standing behind him was a guy with binoculars. It looked like the Binocs were pointed directly across the stadium. So, was he checking out some babes in a suite or was he trying to steal signs/read lips in the Bengals coaches’ booth?

Thank you for confirming. As per the thread title, damn him. And you!! -
This is definitely true btw. The same people who moan about overuse of the cape moan about running the ball and playing small ball too much as wasting Josh Allen. Personally I do think he has needed the cape more this year though. 2024 is the least cape needy version of Allen and the Bills there has ever been IMO. Last year we won 5 or 6 games where the defense and the run game meant Josh could just play in rhythm take what the defense was giving and not have to extend himself. This year it is just the Jets, the Panthers and the Steelers so far. I'd go as far as to say we'd be a 3 win team right now if Allen had missed the season.

Dan Reeves was practically in tears after that game. He said something to the effect "that was the greatest defensive game he's ever been a part of" (holding our offense to 3 points) and it completely devastated him to lose a game like that.

I mean tight end, running back and slot receiver (plus an excellebt OL) won plenty of Superbowls for New England. On their second era dynasty who was the best outside receiver to play on any of those teams? Chris Hogan? Brandon LaFell? Maybe I am forgetting someone but I don't think so. That isn't me advocating for that type of roster build by the way. My views on the Bills issues at outside receiver are well known... and it goes without saying Josh Allen is not Tom Brady. I think Brady might be the only QB in history that could nickel and dime you to death with that set of slill players. Worth saying as well that when healthy Gronk was an all timer at tight end. Kincaid and Knox are nice. They are not that.

One who knows the scheme and played on their Superbowl winning team last season. I think that is a bit different. If say the Ravens were bringing him in and people were praising Eric DaCosta, sure. But the Eagles are a special case when it comes to Slay. What I would say relevant to a different criticism Beane gets is that it proves the point that the Bills are not the only team who look for guys they know and who know them when trying to add injury depth especially late in the year. Roseman is the best GM in the business and just this year has brought back Brandon Graham from retirement, tried to bring back Slay and a couple of guys on the practice squad - most notably Quez Watkins. It's the way the NFL is. Teaching guys your scheme on the fly with limited in-season practices is darn hard these days.

I guess you haven't heard of the New England Patriots... Wide receivers on New England's Super Bowl winning teams: 2002: Troy Brown and David Patten. There wasn't even a third receiver in the box score for the SB, all of the other receptions went to RBs and TEs. 2004: Deion Branch, David Givens, Troy Brown 2005: Deion Branch, David Givens, Troy Brown 2015: Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola, and Brandon LaFell 2017: Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola, and Chris Hogan 2019: Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan, Corderelle Patterson And that's only looking at the Pats, not checking every SB. Here's a few more just off the top of my head. And that's not even looking into the early Super Bowls when passing wasn't as prevalent. 2001 Ravens: Brandon Stokley and Qadry Ismail 1985 Bears: Willie Gault and Dennis McKinnon. 2003 Tampa Bay: Keyshawn Johnson and Joe Jurevicius Sure, great defenses for those teams, but just saying there are more than one way to win. And it actually has been done a number of times without a stud receiver and/or with a pretty mediocre WR room. To the second bolded statement. This is just not true. There have definitely been games this year that Josh did not have to put his cape on...we just saw it in the Steelers game for one. And that wasn't the only game. The funny thing is when we do have one of those games, then you guys complain that we are wasting Josh's talents by making him a game manager. So, you want him to throw the ball all over the field, but then when he does, you guys complain that he has to do too much. Seems to me that the coaches/FO are in a lose/lose scenario with that type of thinking. Just as you guys think McBeane supporters think everything they do is right (which we don't), you guys obviously see everything they do as wrong, even if it was what you wanted them to do. Like your entire opinion on the team, coaching, and front office is completely dependent on us not having a stud receiver. Seems a very narrow way to look at things, imo. One last note: You said, "total absence of talent at WR." There is a big difference between being an average WR room (or a room without a stud) and having no talent at all. He's not a stud #1 outside receiver, but I think most NFL fans and analysts would say that Shakir is a pretty talented player. We added Cooks, who again is not a stud and is older, but he still has talent. Palmer has proven he can at least be a good #3 WR in his career (not so much in Buffalo yet, partly due to injuries). Gabe didn't do well in Jax, but he was a decent #2 for us previously, Keon is not in a great position right now, but he was an early 2nd round pick, so he has talent (whether it ever comes together consistently on the field is another question). Again just saying, big difference between being a mediocre room and a room completely void of talent.

Kincaid won't sign for that. Nor should he. Right now 14 TEs have contracts that exceed $10M average salary. Even with his injuries, he ranked 10th in yards, 8th in catches, 11th in YAC and 5th in catch percentage ... as a rookie in 2023. In 2024, even with his injuries, he was 10th in yards, 8th in catches, 11th in YAC and 6th in catch percentage. Even this year, with several games left, he's 15th in yards, 7th in catch percentage and 14th in YAC. You simply aren't going to get him to sign the 14th best contract in terms of yearly salary. Not going to happen. He'll cost $15M or more. The question is whether the team can get some kind of games played guarantees baked in, and also when we sign him to that long contract. Contracts signed after the 3rd year tend to be lower (which is part of the reason Cook got less than he thought he would). Wait a bit and you can get more, but you risk never getting that large contract if you suffer really serious injury.

Ah I didn't realise the option only cost $8m in my previous answer. If that is the case, no brainer to pick it up. But I am in no rush to pay him. I am not ruling it out but he has to play a full season and have a truly exceptional year if he wants the big tight end bucks. Hardly anyone plays on the tag now though. It is generally just a tool to stop someone walking in March and give more time for negotiation. Given he will be 29 coming off the option year his agent would be totally incompetent to let him play on the franchise tag. Life changing money is very much a one time shot for Dalton. He will get a 2nd deal.... his age when drafted means he probably won't get a third.

It's Taron Johnson.

Milano was a lot better than "an average player who makes some big plays." For two or maybe three years there he was top three or so, and once he was All-Pro. Yes, staying healthy was and is a concern, for Milano and for Kincaid. They signed Milano to a contract that did not pay him like an All-Pro. That was partly a legitimate concern with his ability to stay healthy. They should try to extend Kincaid with a contract that is very very good, but has some injury protection for the team. If that doesn't work out, pick up the option.

Taron and the Bailey vs broncos to go to the Super Bowl. Then odomes vs raiders which might have been a fumble.
-
He has never been the same guy since that shoulder at the start of last season. And that was coming off 2023 that was arguably his best ever year. I know they have used Hancock at safety this year given the holes there.... but my feeling when they drafted him was he was long term Taron insurance and I do wonder if when they turn up at OTAs in the spring he gets a shot to properly compete at nickel.

There’s something different about McD this season…
Kelly to Allen replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall
I just don't understand why ppl think something is different with McDermott in philosophy or situational awareness when up 2 scores with like 3 mins left, his defense allows burrow to score in 4 plays / 50 seconds.... Allen and the running game/ forcing turnovers will help us get to the Superbowl. Not anything McDermott is scheming up. I lost all faith in the AFC championship last year in McDermott actually stopping teams consistently in the playoffs ... Too much data is in Again if they win the Superbowl, it will be in spite of whatever supposed advantage McDermott gives us. I honestly don't know what the heck it is at this point.
