McDermott not in Top 10 of NFL coaches per PFF.
Kirby Jackson replied to 14774's topic in The Stadium Wall
The point was that McDermott and Pegula’s relationship is NOTHING like Payton and Benson. He did tons wrong (pill scandal, other drugs, bounty gate, has a child with a Saints cheerleader). Payton was bulletproof because of his relationship with ownership. I’m not arguing for Stefanski. I’d argue for Tomlin. He has a Super Bowl and has never had a losing season!! I don’t love his style but he’s a HOF coach. I said McDermott is like Purdy. Someone else said Dak. That’s good by me. He’s a borderline top 10 guy. He’s not bad. He has been BAD in the biggest moments which is why he doesn’t belong higher on the list. In terms of the 2nd Super Bowl, there is no call, EVER, even close to the Robey-Coleman PI. They kick a 30 yard FG as the clock expires. That wasn’t a hypothetical or a close call. Google, “what’s the worst missed call in NFL History” and see what comes up. If they make that 30 yarder (or whatever it was) they’re in the Super Bowl. They would have been playing a not so good Pats team. That game was awful. Payton’s team would have showed up. Where we disagree is that I think pretty much any average coach could have achieved what McDermott has with Josh Allen. Lots and lots of guys could have won the divisions that he’s won and the playoff games that he’s won. He has yet to win the big one and he’s had lots of chances. He’s 0-5 vs. KC & Cincy in the playoffs. His defense has been nonexistent. He’s a defensive coach!! You can’t be bad in big games and be considered good. Look at the way people trash Dak and Herbert and Lamar for their playoff performances. That’s McDermott. That’s not Sean Payton. He’s 9-9 in the playoffs. He SHOULD be at least 10-10 or 11-9 with 2 championships. That’s better than 7-7 with no Super Bowl appearances. -
I think TJ Sanders is going to be a star and I think we’ll see why at start in training camp. Hancock, Hawes and Prather are guys I have hope for being great depth. If Hancock picks up the McBabich playbook and shows he can stick in coverage, I think he takes Cams job (as most do). Hawes might be my favorite value pick, as he does something exceptionally well, blocking. And that one thing he does well is something that Brady knows how to use in the run and short passing game. He might not be a great receiver, it I think he’s better than people say. Chip, leak then catch. I like Prather as a practice squad guy. In time (2026+) I could see him getting some snaps Big fan of Strong and his value too. The CB room is deep and I hope he shows out and earns a spot in camp. Not sure he’ll make it to our PS. FA adds- I expect Elijah Moore to get a pay increase next season that will likely yield us a compensatory pick. I really like Joe Andreeson too. Super athletic and I don’t see many holes in his game other than being short with short arms.

McDermott is not a top 10 HC. He is lucky the Bills drafted Josh Allen…. We would already have a couple of Super Bowls by now if we had a top 10 HC.

Kekalainen working remotely in Columbus (not even here for the draft) is very discouraging. -
It seems your valley is not really all that happy. 🤷♂️

At least it keeps the message board busy in the slow periods. Just trying to give our moderators something to moderate.

Your one of those guys that won't give credit if we win the SB. I want a SB win before I die as much as anyone. But logic says, replacing McD now, doesn't get us one. -

Well keep puffing your chest out on the Jets/Dolphins/post dynasty Pats AFC east championships. -
Good thing he doesn't overact or scream to much.

Thirty of the thirty-six unsigned picks are in the second round according to the article. Simple math says only 2 are signed. I would guess most of the remaining six unsigned picks are first rounders.

I think he is a very good coach. No question. But I don't think if my issue is getting over the hump in the playoffs that his playoff record over the last 15 years stands up to any serious scrutiny. -

Shottenheimer couldnt get it done with an immobile Bernie Kosar, a Joe Montana at the end of his career and a overrated Rivers, none of those 3 were as good as Josh is now. -

Very true, but it doesn’t change my premise that successful people don’t like to lose. He can either keep beating the dead horse or come to the realization that he’s not good at running a hockey team. It’s not as if he’s only owned the team for a season or two. Maybe he should go ‘play’ with something else. -

Well, that’s good to know that you were there during the presentation and could read the minds of those preparing the message. That’s quite a gift! If raises are not expected, that should be communicated. That’s how it generally works in the real world. They told the truth, and that brings hate from some. I guess I should expect anyone who goes by “Fire Anyone” would be inherently negative. -

Well, it's too bad you don't own the Bills. Because he's not going anywhere. So, you better hope he figures it out. -

Payton has been good for a long time though. He went to the NFC Championship after 2006 and took an undermanned Broncos team to the playoffs in 2024. He won a Super Bowl in between then and should have went again 5 years ago. I think Payton is an offensive genius. He’s an idiot but he’s an arrogant genius. He doesn’t tense up in the biggest moments. He pushes his chips in. -

Thats exactly it right there. Im not willing to waste Josh on a coach that can't get it done, that would be a tragedy. -
Unfortunately the Sabres are Terry's special plaything. He's in meetings and speaks with Adams daily. Is he just there absorbing info or is he injecting himself in the team management process? It's not clear. I kind of doubt it. He's not even looking at minority shares like with the Bills. And he is facing an expensive rehab of Key Bank Center in the near future.

Louis Oliver was one of those back in the day... thumping after thumping dude would still run his mouth... then... Miami won... he and Bryan Cox were unbearable.. LOL... I am sure if the fins win one Tyreek will be the first running his mouth assuming he is still on the fins when that happens...

Bills fans tend to obsess over bottom-of-roster longshots at wide receiver year after year after year. That being the case, smart money is on Kaden Prather, Tyrell Shavers, and Laviska Shenault to become 2025 camp darlings.

OK, so I’m the slow guy now. If we win it this year, you can’t be happy and you will be banned from the parade! We have a good chance every year, things just haven’t gone our way…..yet.
