The Bills are giving up 5.8 yards per carry. Multiple people have reported that this is the worst in the NFL since 1934, when the short-lived Cincinnati Reds gave up 6.4 ypc in an 0-8 season. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/red/1934.htm Cowherd reported this, as did Florio yesterday in his preview (with Simms) of the Bill Panthers game. Anyway, even though I realize we're only six games in and regression to the mean is a real thing, this is pretty effing bad!

Oh My: Schumer Shutdown Begins Throwing a Wheel or Two? Ed Morrissey October 24, 2025 How much longer will the Schumer Shutdown last? It's already the second-longest government shutdown in history, and ... no one really cares much. Voters seem diffident, Donald Trump seems delighted, and Republicans find themselves on the side of leverage in these stunts for perhaps the first time ever. They have had a clean CR on the Senate floor more than a dozen times, ready to reopen the government as soon as Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats keep filibustering to force the shutdown. Finally, one side shows cracks in its façade ... and as Axios reports, it's not Senate Republicans or the White House. Two red-state Democrats flipped to join Republicans on a partial funding bill aimed at paying salaries for the armed forces and critical-mission federal employees: Sens. Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock voted with Republicans on Thursday on the government shutdown, after previously rejecting every GOP measure to re-open the government or fund parts of it. The pressure of unpaid federal workers falls directly on Schumer and Democrat leadership. That is entirely their constituency, with the exception of military and law-enforcement personnel -- and the White House has already moved money around to fund those salaries for the moment. https://hotair.com/ed-morrissey/2025/10/24/oh-my-schumer-shutdown-begins-throwing-a-wheel-or-two-n3808175

I just thought he had the traits to develop the ability to do those things more consistently. I didn't expect him to be an immediate hit. And to be fair there was brief evidence of that development last year - in the two game stretch of Tennessee to Seattle he showed the run blocking, the fighting through contact, the ability to make difficult catches, the YAC. I was very excited about his development track at that point, but I haven't seen that player show up since then and I'm at a loss as to what happened. I don't think it's lack of effort... I know he has been penalized twice by the team, but I also know through my usual source he really attacked the offseason both before and during camp and the team was very happy with where he was at. Everything is earned under McDermott so it's no coincidence Coleman has led the WR room in snaps since the beginning of the season. That wouldn't have happened if they weren't satisfied with his progress in the offseason. But ever since that injury last year he has looked much softer on the field than I ever would have expected. Oh well. I can forgive Beane for isolated mistakes of player evaluation. What I can't forgive him for is the more fundamental mistake of team building strategy. Skyy Moore is always my go to example because he was an absolute bust, much worse than what even Coleman has been for us. He was KC's Boogie Basham. But because they continually threw resources at the position, they eventually got a big hit with Rashee Rice and all of a sudden their passing offense looks scary again. The isolated mistake of picking Skyy Moore meant nothing in the end. Beane on the other hand put all his eggs in one basket. We entered the season with Coleman as the only possible X on the roster which was a massive mistake that has been compounded by Coleman's lack of development. I know I'm preaching to the choir here but it's just crazy how Beane approaches the WR position compared to every other premium position on the roster. We draft a CB in the 1st round but we also draft a backup option in the 6th round and sign Tre White as a baseline starter. We draft three defensive linemen high but we also sign Bosa, Hoecht, and Ogunjobi to meaningful contracts. At WR we say here you go Keon, the job is yours. No competition, no backup option. Good luck. Why do they continue to leave themselves no margin for error at that one position? I just don't get it.

I've been seeing the same now for a couple of years. The one time I can remember him getting amped up was that KC 13 seconds debacle. He's usually sitting alone staring into space. I believe I heard Bean or mcdermott make a comment about it a while back about needing him to be more of a vocal leader. Mckenzie basically stated in an interview that Diggs rode Josh on the sidelines for this reason. He was trying to amp up Josh to amp up the team. Josh has got to be reminded about what got him his Hollywood wife a d all the comercials. It was the fact that he is a Football player, and a darn good one, but it takes so much more to be great than physical talent. The best qbs ever were also leaders of men.

Plausible X/#1 receiver trade candidates — are there any?
BuffaloBillyG replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yup. Agree that may be their thoughts process. But they still have Njoku, and the rookies Boyd and Fannin to catch passes. They have Judkins to take some pressure off as well. Them moving from Jeudy to help with the rebuild is very plausible to me. -
WRs bust off all the time, so i can't really be mad at mcbean about keon. i didn't want him, but that's only because joe marino didn't want him, joe marino liked that guy from SC (lagget?) who carolina got, and he's god awful, like not 1/5th as good as keon is so far. i think the big issue is, and this is an again again again, brady/mccoach is so schematically set in his ways/arrogant that scheme fit is just way too important vs like every other aspect of a player. we called mcbean the db whisperer and he has a really strong track record of getting db performance, making OK players look like stars, but i think a big part of that is they were perfect for his scheme and his scheme was perfect for them. it's easy to identify the traits/skills that we don't have at the wr position (palmer kinda has the man beating seperation by route running deep threat gene, but not in great quantities, and OF COURSE he's hurt) but (and i thought this was a good thing but what do i know) we seem to just love wrs who can run block above all else. we are the number 1 or 2 rushing team in the nfl, and that's awesome, but it seems to have come at the cost of being able to let josh cook, and what really grinds my gears is we are lining up in like 11 vs NE and atl and getting nothing from it. there is an element, particularly on offense, of brean getting players (hines before, or the mix of backs and tes and ol we have now, you have to give him flowers for the job he's done there) and our OC just like refusing to use them. we are near the bottom in the nfl in passes to backs, and last year we seemed allergic to play action passes (when we ran them the numbers were astounding). we ish on bean for the lack of talent on the roster, and we ish on the corches for the frustrating stuff we see ahead of time but they seem to notice late in the game or not at all, but one of the biggest reasons i kinda thing we need a big reset of some kind is because if we just look at what our GM has done well (qb, rb, te, ol) it's baffling how our OC is running an O that emphasizes our total lack of talent at x/z. the disconnect in our brain trust is itself i think our biggest issue right now.

Cornelius Johnson, Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint, Tahj Washington, Xavier Weaver, Javon Baker, Ainias Smith, Johnny Wilson, Jordan Whittington, and Tayvion Robinson are all complete and total busts to this point. A few of them have literally never taken a snap in the NFL. Tahj Washington is on the chart right between Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr. despite having played 3 career snaps without registering a stat. This chart is a complete fabrication.

I don't know what the deal really is but there's some truth to it, IMO. I called him "Cocaine Josh" in some of the games earlier in his career where he'd be erratic on the field and look wide-eyed on the sidelines like the fight or flight sense is at 150% power. The Bills always lost those games. The 2023 season opener against the Jets is a case in point. There are games where you get a sense he's calmer and more focused, and the offense tends to perform more consistently. On the other hand, there are games where the defense looks like they all just got up from a nap. Slow and staring out into space. The best Bills games are where Allen is calm and focused, and the defense looks like it wants to be there.

Brothers...man, what I can I tell you? Yeah...definitely yeah. "OOOOOOOOhhhhhh, now you say that about Ladd!!" Nope...note just now. Here IS the thing, though. After some of these pick are made you do start to convince yourself, just to get over it. It seems a lifelong thing...2006 NFL Draft: Me and my buddy, in the same room - "The Raiders took Huff! It is happening! We are getting Haloti Ngata!!! We are getting him!!" Moments later - "... ... ... (because, no lie, we were silent for about 30 seconds) ...Whitner? Donte Whitner?! It'll be alright. He's good. Good pick. It will be fine."

I get that, but they also want to ensure that they're able to adequately assess Gabriel. It's hard to do if he doesn't have any receivers, and Jeudy is their best one. -
If OJ can make it in the Naked Gun movies, Josh can as well
-
I could see him being kind of like a Peyton Manning type after his career is over, if he wants it.
-
i think 13 seconds scarred him because he was an emotional, fiery player when drafted. Since that game it seems like he is just always in his head about something.

I feel like there has been too much focus on Olave and Shaheed, and not enough talk about Jerry Jeudy. Browns got him for a 5th and a 6th. I feel like if we offered a 3rd or possibly a 4th for him it gets done. Browns are in another lost season. -

I think it would probably make sense for Josh to have liked Keon (and to be fair, it does seem like Josh pays more attention than most NFL players to the draft), but I also agree that it's not like Josh was going to publicly come out and be like "Yeah, I really hated Coleman as a prospect, but it's the best we could muster. We'll see I guess."

Have you seen his commercials? Love Josh but I don't think acting is in his future...

https://www.nfl.com/news/bills-gm-brandon-beane-josh-allen-pretty-pumped-we-drafted-wr-keon-coleman I'm not blaming Allen at all, but it sounds like he may have had some influence. Regardless, that pick is 100% on Beane.
