Mini-Camp: A James Cook Barometer
BillsFanForever19 replied to BigAl2526's topic in The Stadium Wall
Not the entire Offseason. Despite threatening to Hold Out, Dalvin reported to Training Camp on time. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/1957722/2020/07/28/dalvin-cook-vikings-training-camp-report-contract-dispute/ -
Brady says Kincaid putting in the work. Let's hope it translates. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/bills-oc-joe-brady-it-feels-like-dalton-kincaid-lived-here-this-offseason

Prepare for a lot of flak, and I will too--but I agree with you.

I think there's a higher chance the Lions miss the playoffs than make it past the divisional round, honestly. I definitely don't think they are gonna win their division. The difference with the Bills is that they had a QB who could play his best ball with maybe the worst team he has had around him since his rookie year. Jared Goff is good, but he is not a "succeeds despite surrounding adversity" type QB. The 2023 Eagles are a classic example of brain-drain and loss of both OC and DC that derailed an otherwise pretty talented roster, and they barely . That and the Lions flying in the face of positional value when they took guys like Gibbs and Campbell in the first. Those short-term moves can come back to bite you.

Kentucky Darby? I see what you did there... I actually saw Darby doing some football analysis on the Up and Adams show with Kay Adams a couple of weeks ago. Trying his hand as an analyst/pod caster is my guess.

The reason why I post this here is the Knicks literally got to the same round as the bills in their equivalent sport, and at least had the balls to say it's "not good enough" . How is thibodeau any different than McDermott in this respect?

The Cowboys, Overexposed? Maybe. Overrated? .... You Decide

It's funny because the Cowboys actually operate in a fairly "boring" manner outside of Jones antics with coaching. They haven't been massive spenders in free agency or made big splashy trades for the most part. Their massive contracts (Dak, Lamb, Diggs, and eventually Parsons) have been all players they drafted and developed by them. Their fans have been on Jerry for not spending much in free agency. The issue with the Cowboys is that despite being a top 10 drafting team in recent years and their owners willingness to spend money they will never attract a good coach as long as Jerry Jones insists on not only running the team but micromanaging it. They also have the Dak issue where he's a good QB getting paid like an elite QB. For me with Jerry the issue that's most in his control is his constant presence and meddling is going to lead to the Cowboys never having a good coach because only 2nd and 3rd tier coaches are going to want to put up with that. The top up and coming coordinators and the best most proven retreads have options where they can take a job that's not gonna feature an owner whose constantly making themselves the center of attention and is also the GM. Jones has actually improved as a GM as shown by the teams drafting and prudence in free agency. But with a not so great QB situation relative to what they are paying him and a owner whose kryptonite to a good coach the Cowboys are likely to be a good team that never gets past the divisional round going forward. The Giants are a easy team to be one of the 2-3 random teams that sneak into the playoffs. No one last year expected the Broncos, Vikings, or Commanders to make the playoffs and that happens every season where you get those 2-3 teams that overachieve. It's what makes the NFL so great for fans because any team can vastly over achieve. Personally I think the Giants are a 7 win team. Nice draft classes the past couple of seasons, decent free agency, but lackluster QB situation and a coach walking a fine line to being fired as well as still having offensive line issues is just screaming 7 maybe 8 wins with some luck. 5-6 wins with some bad luck type team. -

I think they did have a good draft. But I am not a huge Dart believer and ultimately QB will sink that team. -
Considering how many coaching & QB changes teams make in 5 years or more, the stat Matt uses is one of the dumbest things I've heard. Currently there are only 4 of these QB/HC combos in the league, 5 if you count the years Love was on the bench at GB. KC & LA won the SB in their QBs 1st 3 seasons, the others haven't. The odds of a starting QB/HC being together that long are so low-only 12.5% of the league has a combo that have been together 5 seasons or more before this season starts. Considering the natural odds of winning the Super Bowl are 1 in 32, this stat is beyond meaningless. Matt Parrino ought to be ashamed.

The NFL reallllllyyy wants the Giants to be good or decent this year. I have already seen the national pundits saying the Giants had a great draft and "could be a sleeper team" blah blah blah. They will win 5-6 games and Daboll will get fired. -
So you weren't interested in parsing it further.........but then you parse it further and finish with 20-0hyperbole. Only way we know @Alphadawg7 hasn't hijacked your account is there was no ✌️at the end. Like I said, a lot of non-Bills fans(and some Bills fans) thought the Bills were poised to take a step back after losing Diggs, Davis, Morse and basically all of their captains. I couldn't care less if the Lions win or not. But as a fan I'd love to have just earned the #1 seed(something the McBills have never done) despite all the adversity they had and then to have difference makers like Aidan Hutchinson coming back after a lost season and Jameson Williams playing for a contract etc.. That and arguably the most favorable schedule of any NFL contender. We will see if the coordinator losses undermine what should be an otherwise improved team by default. Not having any of the top 4 QB's in the NFL in your conference certainly helps.

I'm not sure in today's NFL, Cook is a 15 mil/yr back. But I do believe that the Pro Bowl player on our offense with the 2nd most touches of the ball, 2nd most TD's, 3rd most receptions, and rushed for over 1000 yards is worth at least Josh Palmer and Khalil Shakir money. That would put him at a minimum in the 12 mil/yr, 60 mil 4-year contract range.

Isn’t Marquise Goodwin still playing?
-
I think the intention is to still have Josh run with it about 90% of the time. If/when defenses want to get overzealous, he will have options for a big play. As we saw with KC in the regular season when the defenses wants to condense like that a big play can also very easily happen in the run game. I don't think it is something we do literally every 4th and short, but I would like to see it much more frequently vs being so dependent on the sneak

Next update from Parrino is that Kincaid and Moore were the two best pass catchers today.

The Lookout. Vaya Con Dios, scumbag.

One thing to take away from various updates today is that Hairston was with the starters. In Matt Parrino's texts that I subscribe to he said he noticed a lot of growth from Hairstone this week and he had some competitive reps where he was able to erase separation and break up a pass. Parrino did say it was hard to read too much into team drills today because with Trubisky as the starter there is obviously a massive drop off.
