Are Fan Expectations Too High for Keon Coleman?
ColoradoBills replied to JohnNord's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm doubting an all-out "bust". He needs to stay healthy and work with Josh all summer. His injury messed with his head last year IMO. Allen had plenty to share about Coleman from what he's noticed this offseason. "He looks very smooth right now. I feel like he's put on some muscle, he's moving quicker, not just physically but mentally with our offensive system. I just think he's attacked this offseason the way you would want a second-year receiver to attack." In addition to the on-field aspects of Coleman's game, Allen has built chemistry with him off the field, too. "I love the kid, he's got such a good head on his shoulders, he's a very positive person and he loves the game of football. That's what I love about him is he wants to be the best that he can be, and we're gonna continue to work hard and get to a good spot heading into the season. We're gonna continue to grow the more reps that we get." -

Yeah saying that "everyone" was down on Spencer Brown and then clarifying the reason.......that it's because they are just stupid......is the very definition of a shout down. There is no rationale other than de-humanizing the opinions you don't like. The same way slurs are used to totally discount opinions. A literal shout down. Now if I said that the value of your opinion on the temperature of the fan base regarding certain players is not of import because you couldn't make it professionally in WNY and had to move away..........that would also be a shout down. While I may think that reflects poorly on you or your intellect that is not my response to the subject. But you telling ME what Bills fans think when I literally interact with them all day in public 6-12 hours every day and not just on a message board heavily populated by out-of-towners is the literal equivalent of you claiming Bills fans can't have knowledge about the future outlook of players and only those around them can. Anyway I gotta' pull an Alphadawg here and give you a peace-out. This is the most discussion traffic I've ever seen one of your takes get and and I would just hope you can see why. ✌️ -
That was the preseason from hell. Leinart was signed off the street a day or two before, and if he had been merely average in that game, he likely would've been the Week One starter.

Fine with me. Keep talking trash. Let the others look stupid. -
Who was the qb that was here under Rex that threw the backwards pass in a pre season game? Still cracks me up when I think about it

I think at a minimum Trump should bring Congressional leadership of both parties into the room and share the intel and conversation on the mreits and the mision with these representatives of Congress. That would be a more consensus building approach rather than a series of one liners that he will decide what to do here. This may be happening but I've heard little on what is customary protocol.

And he may in fact be a bust, but I have a hard time reconciling the guy who looked prosing early and the guy who came back after the injury. I’ve heard his explanation, I just want to see him after a re-boot. It’s hard to even guess without seeing some more, for me. -

35 rookie wide receivers were drafted last year and he was 8th in yards Again he certainly was not spectacular but he was not trash and he was better than 85% of rookie wide receivers Of course he needs to get better but he has stuff to build on -
What a baby.

He's young and has had 3 different teams, coaches and QBs in the last 3 years. This season is his first with any stability. He knows what he has to do, and I will wait another year to see how he handles it. It might be his floor is higher than many think. -
I consider myself a pretty die hard bills fan and would have lost money if someone bet me that he was ever a Bill.

That's not a response to what I said about your lack of supporting data for the quote "meaningless" nature of a rookie gaining 500 yards. I repeat: "It's no more common for WR's to put up impressive rookie numbers and never develop than it is to see future stud WR's who don't produce much as a rookie.......as @NewEra detailed while you guys pointed out just one example." The data field you just chose to respond with does not run contrary to what I said or support your point one bit. Just a ridiculously large goal post move that literally supports what I said. But done by you to make it seem like I questioned the trajectory of guys who put up top-32-in-the-NFL type receiving yardage as rookies. I obviously did not. You said getting 500 yards as a rookie was "meaningless". That's an absolute statement. By contrast, "doesn't mean much" is very subjective and basically not saying anything at all when paired with no supporting data for that opinion whatsoever. -
Gino had basically 30 starts before the Jets gave up on him The niners gave up on Trey Lance after like 5 The lights were too bright and the expectations were too high.. they were calling him a Josh Allen type All of that was a recipe for disaster

This may be the first time in TBD history where I have been irrevocably wrong. cherish this moment

You can't look at this, along with all the other data out there, and tell me Keon didn't under-perform. My expectations are even higher this year, so I hope he gets things on track & improves significantly. -
Anything with the bills in the off season is fun for me I'd rather have someone be eccentric then very dull But I do understand your point that cam is not everybody's cup of tea... But it's always interesting to hear another NFL quarterback think why another quarterback is special
-
Sure, but a lot of Bills fans act like Cam wasn't a great player in his prime, or that Lamar is somehow a tier below Allen. Josh has been a better passer, but Lamar has been a more prolific runner. Last year, a lot of things changed. Lamar looked like a better passer, while Josh became much more selective & cautious when throwing the ball. Until last season, Allen always had more turnovers to go along with his more TDs. Then he cut back on the turnovers, still hit 40 TDs, and had the less talented offense. So both guys have had very similar situations, just in reverse. Allen got more weapons early, then Lamar got more weapons recently. I'm just glad the Bills are 2-0 against the Ravens in the playoffs, otherwise they'd be insufferable, and playoff losses would be a much bigger negative on Allen's career had he lost to Mahomes (4 times), Burrow, and Lamar.

This is pure frustration talking, and I absolutely love it coming from Dolphins players. Reminds me of Louis Oliver temper tantrums from the 90s.

You can be a tough grader with high expectations distorting the value of your opinions. You think it’s a wasted season if we don’t win the Super Bowl, because after all that is why we play the game. There are degrees, and there is still plenty of time for hope. -

I think everyone agrees with this. No one that I have seen is saying that there is no chance Coleman turns into something good. What some of us are saying is “right now it doesn’t look great and his issues are not easily fixed”. So many comparisons being made in this thread to players who had the raw physical skills but needed to tweak the skill set. My concern with Coleman is not his ability or inability to refine his skill set - i’m sure he will - my concern is his raw physical skills. For example, I don’t think he is going to just magically gain speed over the offseason. -
I've had plenty of life experience and there's plenty of people here who have it to And everybody doesn't hate Cam Newton just because he's eccentric Rapists are bad people... Give me a break you're an angry person Go to church
