People forget Hoecht was/is a VERY smart player [Brown grad], never hurts to have some quick thinking out there as well.

For the first 6 weeks, they were eating for Hoect and I think just going with what they have shown before. 

 

Now that Hoect is done, they gotta figure out what to do the rest of the year

 

Heard a decent suggestion on locked on..put Rousseau in the Hoect role and have Jackson set the edge. 

 

Either way, I hope they tinker with players and see if they can play that same type of D we have seen the last two weeks with current and/or traded personel

i think Bosa would be a better fit for the Hoecht role. Similar body type, explosiveness. 
And Bosa played mostly a 3-4 LB at LA

Hoecht is more of a hybrid DE/DT IMO, with just enough athleticism to play a 3-4 OLB (but that's not his best position).

 

He's basically what Smoot was supposed to be for us.  Power and enough speed to beat interior oline, sturdy enough against the run inside/outside.  

 

Hoecht is a loss, but hoping we can find a guy like Sebastian Day or others to replace him this season via trade.  Would help fill a void at DT / 5 tech DE type player

He was the 7th overall pick in 2023 for the Raiders, obviously not drafted by the current HC/GM seems like as a rookie he was bad and then he managed to prove to be a rotational piece but nothing special in 2024 and 2025. He seems to have a lot of versatility and still with a year left on his rookie deal after this season so there's plenty of time to continue to develop him at age 25 into hopefully a higher end rotation guy. I wouldn't hate it provided his cap hit for 2026 isn't too bad.

Trade Epenesa to Cincy for Hendrickson. Use Groot in the Hoecht position. Bills probably wouldn't sign AJ next season and he's closer to home

Bills are increasingly going 4 DE's as rushers on 3rd and 5+ it seems with great results. I'm guessing they would be looking for someone they could use like Hoecht in that regard?

 

Solomon has been playing that role and while he does some good things, is definitely not as versatile as Hoecht, nor as good at it.

I agree. I think that they brought Hoecht in to fill this niche role for what they wanted to do on defense and his loss is a killer.  If they can't find someone on the market to fill that role, some have suggested Jackson...but I'm wondering if AJ could do it.  Seems he has always been a bit of tweener.  Not quick enough to be great rushing DE and not powerful enough to be a DT...but maybe his weakness could be his strength in this role?

DE - At DE you have Groot, Bosa, AJE, Solomon and Jackson, I don't see them doing anything different there unless it's competition for Solomon and Jackson.

 

DT - I don't even know what we have at this point ... Walker, Ogunjobe, Phillips ... Jones will come back and get hurt again, Ed maybe for the playoffs, maybe ... Sanders will be back eventually. We have Mathis, Logue and some new guy on the PS.
