I used to like his podcast and found his 3 time SB winner claim a little heavy on self-promotion but I didn't know the full extent Quote
Captain Hindsight Posted Friday at 05:09 PM Posted Friday at 05:09 PM I’ve never been a Lombardi fan, but this seems like an unnecessary smear piece 2 1 Quote

The Belichick/Kraft relationship is obviously sour and this seems to be a product of that. Maybe he didnt get a ring from the 49ers fine, but if he was a part of the 2016 draft and didnt get a Super Bowl ring that year, it says more about Kraft's pettiness than it does Lombardi. 2 Quote

Also kind of paints Belichick in a different light also in terms of loyalty if he paid for it out of his own pocket. He didn't need to do that. Edited Friday at 05:17 PM by Big Turk 1 Quote
hondo in seattle Posted Friday at 05:47 PM Posted Friday at 05:47 PM While the details are new, I remember hearing unflattering things about Lombardi's football acumen years ago. Lombardi overstating his contributions is sadly no surprise when we live in a society where - according to one source - 55% of job applicants lie on their resumes. And I've personally had people steal my professional ideas and claim them for their own on multiple occasions. I know my experience is hardly unique. Maybe that's how Lombardi justifies his exaggerations: Everyone does it. 2 2 1 Quote
D. L. Hot-Flamethrower Posted Friday at 06:03 PM Posted Friday at 06:03 PM (edited) Lombardi always sounded to me like his own biggest fan. Ironically, people who act like they invented something, like the game; Or their resume is unique end up getting caught eventually. People find out they can't do what they said and credibility gets shot. Yes it can get you in the door but not as much as people might think. I know I was fooled one time as a person leading hiring decisions. Never again though. If its too good to be true it likely is. Edited Friday at 10:35 PM by D. L. Hot-Flamethrower 2 Quote

I know I was fooled one time as a person leading hiring decisions. Never again though. If its too good to be true it likely is. I've been fooled too - but I wasn't fooled all the time. Once a job applicant submitted a resume saying he had previously been an army officer. While it wasn't particularly relevant to the job he was applying for, I was sincerely curious about his experience in the military and asked him a lot of naive questions. I'll give him this: he had quite the imagination and was a fascinating teller of tales. When I told him I was a former army officer myself, his face beet red realizing he'd been caught in a web of his own lies, collected his papers, and shamedly said something to the effect of, "Well, I guess you're not hiring me." Lombardi is hardly alone in overstating his accomplishments. Edited Friday at 11:06 PM by hondo in seattle 1 1 Quote
Simon Posted Friday at 06:40 PM Posted Friday at 06:40 PM I heard he even changed his last name to give himself more credibility. His birth name was Mike McDermott... 3 1 Quote
BillsShredder83 Posted Friday at 08:38 PM Posted Friday at 08:38 PM (edited) Pablo Torre is an ABSOLUTE BEASTTTTTT. He came out of nowhere to me, and immediately wanted to hate him for all the sudden being all over everything. That Khawi research was bomb. I went back and watched one on the Terry Rozier thing yesterday after all that NBA news broke out, and my mind was blown at the info, and especially the details he was able to dig out. He's the real deal folks! With that said, I cant say I care much about this story, but def understand why it's news. A dude in his shoes, who acts a bit more humble, probably doesnt get found out LOL ---Specifically "Collusion-Gate" episode about the NFLPA and JC Tretter, and that story about collusion around Lamar & Deshaun Watson that came out. ... that episode is absolutely A++ , shocking dirt dug up there. I think he's been on around the horn for 15 years .. he's always been super in depth sports journalist Though this is a piece that might have validity but it also seems like sour grapes Edited Friday at 08:43 PM by Buffalo716 Quote
dpberr Posted Friday at 08:44 PM Posted Friday at 08:44 PM Torre's work on the Kawhi Leonard "situation" - newsworthy. Torre's work on Mike Lombardi and all the UNC drama: - not newsworthy. I don't think anyone outside UNC cares about Lombardi, Bill Belichick or his girlfriend. 1 Quote

I havent watched that type of ESPN Show since I got off the bus in High School. I don't hate ESPN as much as most, they have some good stuff, but the day time TV stuff is unwatchable. Im surprised I hadnt heard of him once until that Leonard story broke. I didnt see the episode he put out on Lombardi, but that Florio write up is a pretty doo-doo format to try and convey whatever the story is. Florio writes like a middle schooler lol 1 Quote
