This is everything not just sports. It's actually harder to do with live sports. HBO has an easier time taking Game of Thrones Episodes off piracy sites because they can have algorithms and AI that looks for the footage from the episode. The footage stays the same for the most part as it can detect slight changes some people try to do to throw off the tech. Whereas with a live feed that you don't know how it looks until it is broadcasted it is harder to root out streams. It also comes with a lot higher demand because the market now is so fragmented. I think there was a video of LeBron at one of his sons college games using an I-Pad to look at Stream East watching NBA games. LeBron could not only afford the NBA Package but gets it from the League/Team for free. But with all the local blackouts it is just easier to use StreamEast and know you can watch the games. If you don't think that consumers are footing the bill for enhanced security measures, subscription bleed, etc., you're totally delusional IMO. Just because you can't see all of the measures taken w/r/t digital content (as opposed to the fiberglass locking shelves at CVS, etc.), doesn't mean that expensive measures aren't being implemented. And those of us who pay full freight are paying for them. (Again, I know that a prevailing world view now is that if you pay full price you're a sucker. Times have changed.) If purchasing isn't owning, then piracy isn't theft. 3 2 Quote

Seems pretty clear the owners dont want a cheaper package. How does spreading content across multiple platforms make it "premium" ? If nothing else, the headache it creates cheapens the product. The real reason is because all these networks pay the NFL ridiculous fees for the opportunity to stream the games...the only premium is the excess $$$ going into the NFL's pockets. I subscribe to the content I watch for things other than the NFL...if I can catch a game, I will. Sunday ticket feels like a waste because I only watch a small % of what is available...and its expensive. I used to pay the price, but I don't see the value in it anymore. With the Bills doing well, you get a lot of games as part of normal streaming. Quote
Bullfrog Posted September 3 Posted September 3 Sadly everyone wants more money. I make mid 40k and I don't have the cash to pay for all these subscriptions. I wish my pay went up like the nfl does. I am not saying stealing is right. I am just saying I get why people are doing it. Heck the grocery store gets me for $200-$250:every week for the family. Everything is skyrocketing. Billionaires don't know these problems. 3 1 1 Quote

How is it any different from shoplifting from Target? Not endorsing these sites, but this is an incredibly naive argument and there is not even a remote correlation between a physical object produced and sold vs an event you're paying to watch. Target items are fungible and limited in stock, comparing a streaming package price to bottles of Gold Bond in storage. To make this comparison even remotely applicable you would need to restrict the amount of streaming bundles you are selling. Do you think they would charge less if they had more subscribers? Netflix had ALL the subscribers and keeps raising their price and you are now paying a monthly fee on lower tier plans for the privilege of watching ads. If the NFL could charge you $1,000 to watch their product and get away with it they would and they would still make you watch all their advertising to boot. If you disagree, please show me a PPV sporting event that lowers what they charge based on the numbers sold. You're never going to hear "hey this event is $60, but for every 100,000 buys over a million we will reduce the cost by 5%" I pay for all of my content, but don't make me or yourself out to be victims of people who pick up a stream, that's ridiculous. 3 2 Quote

Everything else they didn't give a ***** about. Spread it around nickel and dime consumers to make as many TV packages as possible. The NFL has made their product into 10 different consumer products (11 if you count NFL+ but that is truly an add on) 1- AFC Games Sunday Afternoons in market (CBS) 2- NFC Games Sunday Afternoons in market (FOX) 3- Sunday Night Football National Games (NBC) 4- Monday Night Football National Games (ABC/ESPN) 5- Thursday Night Football National Games (Amazon) 6- NFL Sunday Ticket for out of market (YouTube TV) 7- NFL Network Exclusive Games (NFLN) 8- Netflix Christmas Day Games (Netflix) 9- NFL Redzone (Various) 10- Peacock Exclusive game (Peacock) That's insane just how fragmented this is. 3 Quote

You're paying higher prices because of corporate greed, which would exist with or without piracy. What is the difference between greed and seeking to maximize profits (which every publically traded corporation has a fiduciary responsibility to shareholders-like me and everyone else who owns their stocks either individually or through indexes, mutual funds, retirement accounts, etc-to do)? Please be precise and explain the exact dollar amount they start being greedy and I and other shareholders should be okay with them not trying to maximize return on our investments l. I’m being facetious of course because you cant do it. People who complain about greed use the term to describe a feeling they have towards other people. They themselves are never greedy of course-that is always a crime committed exclusively by others. 1 1 1 Quote
