Augie Posted Wednesday at 10:06 PM Posted Wednesday at 10:06 PM I think there is a very important distinction to be made here between “the man” and “that time in your life”. I can separate the two, but I respect other’s feelings. 3 Quote

Its all good - just a different perspective. And like I said earlier to a couple other people, I am here admittedly with an unfortunate bias and probably should just have stayed out of the thread all together. But having kids now makes it all land different for me now more than even before. 1 1 Quote

I've heard both good and bad stories about him off the court. I don't expect these guys to be boy scouts. Stuff like Murder or the s*** Diddy or Bill Cosby were involved in is a whole different level and would ruin the fan experience for me We are blessed that not only is Josh Allen such a freak of nature talent wise but he is also a legitimately good dude and a true role model. 3 Quote

Yeah if you dig deep enough you can really see how his gambling addiction impacted him and those around him! I never thought about stern like that. But you are right. I'm guessing Rodger has a pic of Stern in his office haha. Stern protected the brand Quote

US Egg Posted yesterday at 04:55 AM Posted yesterday at 04:55 AM O.J. came into the restaurant/nightclub I worked in, it was around ‘77. It was slow because it was between lunch and dinner. I go to walk out of the one dining area, turn, and there’s OJ, with not his wife, Juanita. He asked where the manager was by his name and I said upstairs, it was kind of a VIP private/office area. Up he goes. Then the bartender called me over. I was kind of new there and was bussing tables at the time, he says take these drinks upstairs and just drop them off on the stand just inside the room and don’t say anything, don’t stare and get back down. I go up, go to put the drinks down on a tray stand and the manager says bring them over here, put them on the table where they were sitting. I’m trying not to make eye contact with O.J., it’s obvious I’m nervous. I put the drinks down, start walking away, the manager calls me back and introduces me to O.J. I shake his hand, he says “relax kid” reaches in his pocket peels off a $20 and hands it to me. I thanked him, turned to look at my manager worried I should have refused, he winks and gives a nod towards the door. That’s my first memory of O.J. whenever his name comes up. 5 Quote
KeLLy1278 Posted yesterday at 05:35 AM Posted yesterday at 05:35 AM (edited) OJ was the greatest RB of the 1970s. That says it all really. He was a freak athlete with speed. One of the very best players that the game has ever seen. Never met the guy.. but he seemed like a consummate pro when he was working as a TV sports reporter/analyst. Sounded intelligent and knowledgeable about the game. He was in some good films as well up until the criminal element showed its head. On the field he was an incredible player. Not much else to say. Take note that I’ve not once criticized you, called you any names, made juvenile cracks about “comprehension” and “paying attention in class.” Normally this the part where I call someone out for being full of poo poo (you never backpacked in Europe. You drive around looking for Patriots-themed billboards). But rather than lick this low-hanging fruit and have to serve a suspension for it, I’ll just let you do your thing and humiliate yourself. It’s like getting gas in New Jersey … I don’t even have to lift a finger!! Psssst …. That was a comparison. Bye, Peter. 😘 Quote

juno999 Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago I went to a bunch of Bills games with my dad in the 70s. I remember the crowd being electric and full of energy each time OJ touched the ball. He could score from anywhere on the field. After a long run by OJ the crowd would chant Juice! Juice! Juice! It was deafening and truly exhilarating experience. Now we’re experiencing that same energy with 17. 1 1 Quote
Thrivefourfive Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago (edited) Here in Southern California, I walked into a Walmart around the late 90s. Strangely (or not.. it’s Walmart), there was a signing table setup, and at quick glance I saw USC Trojan Heisman Trophy winner (they’re a dime a dozen) signing things with posters and the cardinal and gold all around. My heart friggin sank into my toes because I thought, for a fleeting moment, that it was OJ Simpson about 20 feet away from me. In a split second it made sense—dude was well on his way to panhandling for fame and fortune while being completely unaffected by how people saw his slasher ***, and USC was struggling. Match made in heaven. Before the murders, all I remember is my mom saying, “the Bills suck! but OJ was great” 🤣 Edited 6 hours ago by Thrivefourfive Quote
