dhg Posted Tuesday at 06:12 PM Posted Tuesday at 06:12 PM Anyone have any experience with this? I don't know much about it. Old guy here! Spectrum internet has gone through the roof. Looking for alternatives Quote
Roundybout Posted Tuesday at 07:29 PM Posted Tuesday at 07:29 PM I’d avoid Verizon Home 5G. I’m stuck in the last year of my contract with the service and can’t wait to get out. The service works by giving you 5G internet when it’s available, and 4G LTE as a backup. The 5G signal is amazing when it’s properly being received, but when the signal is weak, my router tends to get “confused” and tries to switch between the 5G and 4G signals. It ends up dropping the connection. It’s not a problem with the router, it’s the signal. I’ve heard good things about T-Mobile’s service, maybe some other members can post about that. 1 Quote

Johnny Hammersticks Posted Tuesday at 07:49 PM Posted Tuesday at 07:49 PM We just changed to Fidium Fiber. Much, much faster and our bill went from $160 (Xfinity/Comcast) to $75/month. Quote

I have a friend that lives in the city that has Empire and I'm sooooooo jealous but when I called there to check availability in my "rural" area I was told we're not even in their expansion plans yet. 1 Quote

I don't know what "good things" you've heard about T-Mobile but my neighbor has it and he can't wait for his contract to expire in November. They might be great around the metropolitan areas but they flat out suck out in the boonies where I live. I see him walking around out in his yard frequently trying to get a signal and he told me about the only time he even TRIES to use his cell at home is for a return call to someone that called him. He'd really like to dump his landline but he doesn't dare to until he has a reliable cell. Quote

Did some reading and figured out you could email your phone an mp3 and then add it as a ringtone. Edited yesterday at 02:35 PM by Just Jack Quote

dhg Posted 18 hours ago Author Posted 18 hours ago Unfortunately I'm kind of in a "dead zone" in south Cheektowaga. It's Spectrum or the new Greenlight and that's it. Greenlight isn't much cheaper than Spectrum so not sure if it's worth the switch. Fios isn't available here. The 5g seems to average around $70 for what we would want Quote
LabattBlue Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago I have T-Mobile for cell service and internet. Cell coverage is fine in house, but coverage can sometimes be maddening when out and about. Internet…had a couple problems where nearby tower has had issues in the past, but because of that they knocked my price down from $50 to $30(it was supposed to be temporary), and never raised it back up. 🤫 Greenlight just installed fiber in my WNY subdivision, but price starts at $55. Not sure it is worth a $25 increase in my internet costs. Plus they charge for installation. Quote
Augie Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago We have to wait a few years for the fast stuff until our little 68 home neighborhood has to tear up and replace the road. It comes up every HOA meeting, especially after everyone worked from home with Covid. It’s all around us, but not available to us. Quote
