I think Nantz is the greatest of all time.

My personal best list is:

1. Nantz

2. Michaels

3. Costas

4. Enberg

5. Madden

I'm older than most, I also liked Curt Gowdy (with Al DeRogatis), Ray Scott, Jim Simpson, Pat Summerall (when paired with Tom Brookshier, Madden was great, no question, but I think his schtick got tiring at the end).  A very underrated team was Charlie Jones and Todd Christensen (see Comeback Game).

Were you born before or after the invention of the cotton gin???

I do remember Gowdy but I was a kid.  Summerall/Madden was the duo in my childhood.  I grew up as a kid in Minnesota and CBS was NFC and NBC was the AFC.  ABC had Monday Night Football with Dierdorf, Michaels and Frank Gifford.

I don't think Madden was necessarily good in the sense of your typical professional broadcaster, he was just perfect for football....especially that era of football.

As a kid, for baseball, Mel Allen was great.

NBA was Marv Albert.

I couldn't disagree more about Al Michaels for like the last 10 years, he's so bad now. Enberg was so good, possibly my favorite.

1:00 pm IS football time!

I like the fact that the Bills get a lot of national attention with the primetime games since that means the team is good. With that said I still like the 1:00 starts for Bills games as my favorite start time.

I can agree about the last 10 years but more of overall career.  He's like Rickey Henderson, just played too long....great in his prime.

Does anyone really have anything against Nantz? He is great. I can see complaining about Romo, but not Nantz. Not when there are so many that are so much worse than him. He has an iconic voice. Plus, he has great respect for Josh Allen as a person and a player. I'd take Nantz over almost anyone.

But yes, Romo has gone sour. I liked him the first couple of years, but he has really gotten bad.

Yes. I cannot stand Nantz. To me, it feels like and sounds like he is talking down to his audience and his “excitement” is fake and performative.

He is great for the Master’s which fits his snooty style.

He was terrible for the Final Four, the only two college basketball games he called all season.

Give me Kevin Harlan all day long. Gus Johnson is an absolute gem.

I’ll be very happy when Nantz retires.

What is this "cotton gin" you speak of?  Do you mix it with tonic water to make a savory cocktail?

I agree with all that you say about Nantz, one of the best.

But Romo, who started off pretty well, though not as well as people said, seems unprepared, like he does not know specifics about the teams and players he is covering.  Sort of like how Herbstreet was when he began the Thursday night gig--unprepared, so then they talk too much to compensate and then the cliches come rapid fire for the same reason.

But the way Nantz and Romo gush over each other, their partner, is hard to watch, listen to, especially near the beginning and endings of the seasons, and during holidays.

he still calls the game fairly well IMO, but you can tell he’s so elderly and bored 🤣

My thoughts:

This season I predict that ol' Jimbo does not merely stare longingly into Tony Romo's eyes to tell him how much he loves him, but grabs him by the ears on national TV and kisses him hard on the lips for 30 seconds.  At first Tony pretends to resist, but 10 seconds into hit he just gives in.

They are married by Christmas.

And become the first married couple to ever broadcast an NFL game together.

Nantz starts introducing his partner as My sweet little Cowgirl, and Romo blushes and giggles every time.

Romo needs to learn to shut his mouth occasionally. We tuned in to watch the game bro!!

The announcers all get into delivering their pre prepared material and forget to announce the games.  Bothersome to say the least.
