Back during the late 70s oil embargo, Gas was cheaper in  Canada than the USA. One time drove to Ft. Erie to fill up. At the border when the guy asked where you were going, just said "To buy gas."

My sister's ex's mother would go play bingo every week in F.Erie.  Border agents knew her by her first name.

With two large bingo halls in town, service clubs that sponsored each session were able to greatly fund club activities.  Youth sports fees in town were much cheaper, thanks to the underwriting the bingo games funded.  The prize values offered were much higher than could be paid in NYS, and there was a faithful contingent of bingo bunnies taking in two or three sessions.  When the last "BINGO" of a session was called, there was a mad rush out the door as the players headed off to the next hall.

Is bingo really a game or just a strange version of the lottery... really no skill involved.

I say a skill... From Google A.I. on maintaining lots of bingo cards... 😆

"To maintain multiple bingo cards effectively, it's important to stay organized by arranging the cards neatly for quick visibility and using strategies like color coding to help track numbers. Additionally, consider starting with a manageable number of cards and gradually increasing as you become more comfortable."

Road maps!  My granddaughter was just opening the paper instructions (in 17 languages) for her wristwatch, and it took me back to when a kid could go in a gas station and get a free map of your city, your state / province, or your region of the country.  In both the cases of the watch instructions and the maps of years ago, I wonder how well the refolding goes? 🤔😁

Forget the gas stations, what about the map stores? I’m serious! I used to go to Mel’s House of Maps to buy maps of my section of Florida for my real estate work. Imagine that, a store that existed solely for the purpose of selling maps. Few people would know how to use one now, and fewer could fold one.

Mel was actually a tennis buddy of mine, and I’m glad he was at retirement age when maps died.

Friday nights used to look a bit different in the 90s

I'm pretty sure I think I mentioned this to you at some point.

I know ABC some years back tried to re-create this, TGIF.  I remember a modern Wonder years was included.

I thought after watching it for 10 minutes this was the biggest pile of manure.  I thought it was awful.  lol

I don't remember that convo specifically but I'm a firm believer in you can't catch lightning in a bottle twice

The original TGIF run was at the right time and in the right place.  It just worked.  There is no way trying to recreate it years later in a different time in society it would have worked.

Funny enough TGIF came up at work today which is what made me post about it.  The younger kids there didn't grasp what a monumental cultural event TGIF was in it's heyday.  I told them it was truly one of those you really had to be there kind of things

Yeah kind of like with the return of Beavis and Butthead.  I thought that movie a few years ago was solid.

But when I tried watching new episodes of it I just wan't feeling it after a few of them.

Then again though I saw some commercials for some new episodes and it looked kind of funny.  So maybe I'll give it another chance
