Is job dissatisfaction at an all time high?

I know I can be negative about my job but wow reading some of the threads on Reddit about Jobs today was straight depressing.  

 

In real life as well it seems like many people I know feel overworked and overstressed.  

 

Been there and still are.  This forum and members here through PM's are one of the main reasons I'm still employed!  Useful distractions/vents during the days.

People just complain more now and reddit is about the worst place you can go for that. If you don't like it, calculate your options and take some interviews. Can't hurt.

Ive been negative about my job since I graduated. Been doing for 20 years. People have come and gone. Still doing it as I dont know what else I would do. Having children adds another level of stress to the equation as it makes me feel like Im locked in until they are launched.

Im dissastisfied with my job, but that's solely based on the fact "Im too old for this..." has become a mainstay of my personal vernacular.

Work is work. It allows me paid time off and some disposable income to spend with my family. Time with my family is satisfying.

 

That said, my resume is always fresh. I've changed things around a few times. Took interviews, took reassignments within my agency. The way I look at it, as long as I maximize my income potential in my line of work and work isn't making me actively miserable I can pretty much handle whatever.

At my job? Yes. That is why people are leaving my profession in droves. My job used to be a respected position in the community where we were relatively well paid and held in high esteem. Now we are a public punching bag.

Unfortunately I'm sort of stuck. I don't want to go higher up the food chain because that situation is worse and I can't really switch career paths at the moment so I just continue to go in and try not to hate it. There have definitely been some "business decisions" about what I will and won't do anymore though. Particularly about unpaid extras.

 

I'm trying to switch locations if I can. It might not be better, but it will at least be different.

Yeah, at this point I've aged out of any other marketable skills and the golden handcuffs get tighter every year.

 

If we're on the same wavelength like I assume, I can tell you my region is decent for pay/benefits but tough on the mental health. But I know some guys who lateraled out to other states/regions and are much happier now. Just not an option for me so I'm making the best of what I got.

I have a really cool job and make really good money........and sometimes I hate it! Maybe more than sometimes.
