Perhaps the finest video from an AFL regular season game. Rookie Joe Namath’s 1st start as the Bills are on their way to a repeat title.
Worth the watch’

Lol!! The Jet's new $400,000 a year rookie QB Joe Namath.

To put that in perspective now, Caleb Williams made about $580,000 per game as a rookie QB.

Thanks, Chan. That was (just a tad) before I was aware of the Bills, but did anyone in Buffalo actually refer to Jack Kemp as "Jackie" back then, or was that just a highlight-reel thing?

Also, my brothers and I sure didn't care for Joe Namath back in the day (with his shaving cream and panty-hose commercials and all that, LOL), but I have to admit -- he did throw a nice ball.

Yes. It was common as he went by Jackie as a scrub in the NFL his first couple years. (Giants and Steelers)

Worth noting from this game, Duby broke his leg on that TD pass in the end zone. The next week, we lost Bass for the season as well. Eddie R would start and we traded for Bo Roberson from Oakland and still repeated as champs.

"Mr. Wilson, have someone call an ambulance!  We have to get Elby to a hospital!"

Ralph: "Do you know what those things cost?!  Have the assistant equipment manager take him in his car.  And tell him to park on the street...I am not paying to park in the ramp!"

It looked like something happened on that catch.

Ralph is cheap.

I've seen some videos of the Bills playing at WMS where the field was in terrible shape, but for this game it looked great.

It's amazing that the Bills cruised to a second straight championship without Cookie (traded before the season), Dubenion (injured in this game) and Bass (injured the following week).  The key was the defense, which unfortunately got very little attention in this video.

Tell you what stood out to me. When they showed the Bills FG, for a second I was like "hey, that's a modern style of kicking for back then", then I heard the announcer say Gogolak's name and realized why

actually the 400.000 was for the length of the contract, his contract was the main reason the NFL merged the AFL and in fact the AFL owners were all in together in agreement to give Namath the money to let the NFL believe they were gonna sign all the up and coming college players.

Thanks, that brought back a lot of memories. I don’t think I was at that game, but what an enormous experience game day was for this young kid. It’s interesting, but the scenes from outside the stadium seem to strike a chord even more than the stuff inside the stadium.

Walking up to those gates felt like the Roman Colosseum to me. On a trip back a few years ago a buddy took me by the still standing gates. Like so many things from your youth, it’s not quite what you remember, but it’s still special.

Lamonica sighting! Still wonder what it would have been like to have kept him.

BTW the Beatles played at the Jets' stadium just a few months prior to that game.

Dumbest trade the Bills ever made.
