It is expensive however if you get there when the store opens up, sometimes you get lucky and find it 50% discounted when it was full price the night before. There is a restaurant in Regina, Saskatchewan called The Diplomat that had elk steak on the menu when I was living there or visiting and I would always order it. I see it is NO longer on their menu anymore => https://thediplomatsteakhouse.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/72094-Diplomat-Supper-Menus-8.5x11-web.pdf Moose is NOT a domesticated animal and thus cannot be purchased. My Late Father shot a handful of them over the years so I grew up eating it. Guessing it’s similar to here then where you need to have a tag if you’re going hunting for it then? Or is it like some other states where you have to enter a draw? My father in law, his best friend, my brother to be, myself and 3 of the younger children went to the cascade mountains for his 70th. Bagged a cow, a mule and 2 bighorn. Id like to go to Lake Clark, Alaska some time soon. Last time we were in anchorage they were talking about how good the bear/moose/caribou hunting was. Only problem is the price of everything to and from there… especially the return if you’re successful lol Edited January 8 by Sojourner Quote

Fun Fact: The plural of moose is moose. 2 Quote

machine gun kelly Posted January 10 Posted January 10 (edited) My 94 yr. Old dad is teaching my Chinese wife (I only bring up as she has lived here 9 years, but still learning really traditional old fashioned American family meals) Beef Stew. He makes in a crockpot for 5-6 hours so tomorrow is cooking class before I take my gal to see Den of Thieves and then a holiday dinner as my kids bought us some gift cards. Anyway, we’ll have a huge pot of awesome Beef Stew with tons of garlic and tomato sauce in tot for flavor. I’ll probably eat it three times Sunday. So a long answer to a short question. BEEF STEW. You can’t take the Irish Catholic Southtowns boy out of me even though I’ve lived in Tampa longer than Buffalo. Not that I don’t love sushi, Mexican, and lots of other options, but I’m a hopeless meat and potatoes kind of guy. My dad doesn’t cook healthy, but damn it tastes good. Im glad you guys will have fun. Everyone deserves to eat as Josh states. BTW- I’ll pretend the beef is horse meat as I’d never eat for real. Edited January 10 by machine gun kelly 1 1 Quote
hondo in seattle Posted Friday at 09:52 PM Posted Friday at 09:52 PM I've had horse meat in France, elk in the Cascades, and even bull penis in a Chinese restaurant once, but never Rocky Mountain Oysters. I'll have to correct that deficiency someday but this weekend I'm sticking to Korean-style Buffalo Wings with a spicy gochujang sauce. 1 1 Quote

paulmm3 Posted Friday at 10:08 PM Posted Friday at 10:08 PM I have broken bones (in a Bills themed splint) and should drop about 15 pounds and cut out some sodium for blood pressure reasons. Cut out alcohol for losing 15 pounds reasons. So probably salad, oatmeal, eggs for a stark change from the six pack, lays sour cream and onion, and buffalo wings of prior years. If the Bills do well with me on the healthy plan I'll obviously have to keep it up I guess. 3 Quote

Apparently, the Dutch and the French love their horse meat. Personally, I prefer moose and the few times I tried horse meat I found it very grainy. My mom was from Paris, and I had horsemeat over there a couple of times, including raw. It was very good - as good or better than beef. A French butcher told us the best horse meat from the US and Canada. I had horsemeat in the US once and maybe it was an old reject from a glue factory because it was awful. I think Highland Packers which is about 6+ miles away from me does however it is snowing right now and that is a trip up the escarpment in my electric SmartCar so I will give it a pass tomorrow morning. I would want them tomorrow morning to get a 24+ hour marinate on them. If the snow stops at less than 3", I will go to an Afghan Butcher that is about 1+ miles from me when they open at 9:00 AM and are NOT busy yet. They often have Sheep Testicles at a reasonable price. You need to remove the membrane around them, cut them in half length-wise and marinate them for 24 hours. I have the cooking swords so if I can score some tomorrow, I will grill them just before game time on Sunday. Edited Saturday at 06:40 AM by HIT BY SPIKES 1 1 Quote
