Rd 5, Pick 160: LB Edefuan Ulofoshio, Washington

Recommended Posts

Buffalo has been quietly building a linebacking corps of players who are smart, instinctive and can all run: Milano, Bernard, Dorian Williams, Baylon Spector.  Bernard needed a year to learn McDermott's system, but had a terrific sophomore season.  2023 was Dorian Williams' redshirt season.  Spector also started slow, but had some good games in 2023 when pressed into service.   Hopefully, Ulofoshio can follow the same path.  He's got enough speed.

He moved to Las Vegas when he was sophomore in high school, so he knows how to be hot and cold.

Yep! Casinos will teach you that in a hurry.

We’ll have good competition at LB. What are the odds Beane turns one of those guys into a late round bargaining chip?  Yes, speaking of Vegas……

They can all cover and knife into the backfield too.

We love Milano, but I think his succession plan is in full swing. He’ll be 30 in July and only has 3 seasons where he’s started more than 13 games in his career. I don’t know what the future looks like for him if he can’t stay healthy.

The injury concern is real with Milano.  II agree that the Bills are aware the clock is ticking on his career.  For the time being, I think the Bills are hoping that Dorian Williams can step in if he gets hurt.  Not many players have the instinct and football smarts that Milano has, but at least Williams has plenty of athleticism.  With a year in the system, hopefully, the mental aspect of his game is not a liability.

Nothing against this kid and seems like a good pick, but this is the one spot I think Beane should have went for WR and took Malik Washington. Would have loved to double down on receiver.

I agree if I were running the draft I would have gone with Malik Washington at that pick. BUT the team clearly after adding Coleman either has one of two philosophies. One they simply like what they had at WR after drafting Coleman or two they have a vet WR addition (maybe a Tyler Boyd or OBJ not like an Aiyuk) so after adding Coleman and a vet they don’t have room for a second pick.

Did we draft a LB because there is some concern by management about Milano’s health?

No one here is going to know one way or another .. but I would say not  necessarily…they have lost a couple of guys at the position… this guy is going to be playing some teams this season I would suggest …

This is just my opinion, but if there was much concern about Milano's recovery I think they may have addressed the position before the 5th round. Waiting until day 3, to me at least, is the first sign that he may be closer than they are letting on.

Milano's whole injury and timeline to recovery seems to be one of the best kept secrets/need to know basis injuries I can remember in recent Bills history so I understand why some may question what's going on with his recovery.

I think this player is an ST ace and the Bills likely wanted LB depth due to how banged up they were in totality last year at LB. I think given how these fast small LB’s may get hurt a bit more frequently they probably are going to want to carry 6 on the active roster.
