Do you wonder if the league is fixed?

Josh hits that TD pass, the Bills win, and the Chiefs still cover the spread.  Why did he intentionally dirt it?

A ball gets caught, a ball gets dropped, a guy fumbles reaching for the end zone……you have ample points of interest.

I just call it sports.

Guy fumbles at the goal line and the Bills go on to win, and people say it was rigged the other way.

The NFL isnt stupid enough to get into bed while gambling and also fix games at the same time. There isnt an incentive to do so. The only time I'd come close to it is the NFL eyeballing all the interest in Taylor Swift and nudging officials to give the chiefs the edge and get them there. Other than that, what would possibly be worth it it to fix games?

Right so the $330 million of extra revenue amounts to roughly $10 million per team.  Meanwhile, the Chiefs have increased in value by more than 100% ($2.2 billion) since winning the Superbowl in 2019.  As long as they can keep this up for 220 seasons, that's a break even for the Pegulas.

Shouldnr you gather for a tomahawk chop meeting somewhere?

Obviously CBS makes that back by selling the ads for the game.  Those ads are bought by companies with goods and services to sell.  Theoretically, the Taylor Swift might have the potential for CBS to sell the ads for more and enhance THEIR bottom line (not the NFL's)....but CBS sold out its SB ads by Halloween--likely before the impact of this couple peaked.

None it will make a difference for the NFL's bottom line.

The NFL doesn't control the country. Pfizer and other huge businesses do. And Taylor Swift was famous and insanely popular well before Halloween. By then she was probably already worth 750 million.

Once again, I have never heard even one of her songs, but I almost get the feeling that you might not understand how big she is. Her popularity is in the Beatles/Elvis range from what I gather.

Oh, wow.  Well, OK then.  I mean, yes, oligarchs control both parties amd our republic is in danger but taking that to mean swift in a vegas suite with Jason at the SB is somehow tied to that is something different.  I mean, the NFL amd it's team owners are billionaires and so not typically liberals.

I said nothing about liberals and/or conservatives. I'm talking about big companies making tons of money. Long ago if any sporting event was "fixed" it would be done by the mob which barely exists today. The government took over their rackets in a sense.

What's your point?  If it's that we need better mental health treatment in this country, I'm with you.

At least with the Mob you as a normal citizen could mostly avoid it, the latter not so much🤑

that's not how it works.  No matter how many people tune in for the SB (or don't), it has no immediate impact on revenue for the NFL--that game was paid for by CBS a while ago.

Also, the matchups hardly matter:

Tampa (small market in a college football state) vs KC (tiny market other than hate watchers nationally) had over 100 million total viewers.

NE vs Atlanta (zero national fanbase, mediocre local fanbase) had the most ever--126 million.

In fact nearly every other game got at least 110 million.  It doesn't matter.

Careful, you’re thinking clearly ….  “they” are going to silence you.  I’m sure they can create some after the fact “facts” video to challenge what you wrote.

Ads are sold, and revenue generated, long before the pairing is known.   WAIT, could that mean the 100s of thousands of employees at the advertisers are in on it, too?

If I read this thread correctly, the only people not in on the fix are a small portion of the fans.

As I type, it occurs to me that this THREAD is rigged!   ISPs and POP UP ADS.   Cuz, you know, they’re businesses, and in it to make a profit.  This is entertainment, after all.   Is Netflix rigged?

‘Alas, Queeg …

“Ahh, but the strawberries! That's - that's where I had them. They laughed at me and made jokes, but I proved beyond the shadow of a doubt and with - geometric logic - that a duplicate key to the wardroom icebox DID exist! And I'd have PRODUCED that key if they hadn't've pulled the Caine out of action! I, I, I know now they were only trying to protect some fellow officers -“

She made a billion on her tour in a year--we all can understand how "big" that is.  This one SB's rating still has no impact on NFL overall revenue.  The game was paid for 2 years ago.  None of this matters.

Even if it does not matter immediately, how can increased, and new and different viewers NOT effect profits down the road? Do you think that the cameras are showing TS and Kelce with the band aid for no reason, or to turn a profit?

I hope that you don't sense any hostility in my responses. It's an interesting topic imo and we can certainly agree to disagree afaic.

One more time, for those in the back, 'scripted' and 'fixed' are different things.

The NFL can have interest in how a game plays out and use the refs to nudge it that way.  If it still doesn't go the way the want, oh well.  If there is fixing, it's more "We want <x> to win, see what you can do." rather then "<x> must win at all costs!!!".  That's why you hear the phrase "Yeah, we had to beat them and the refs!".  Look at the two key, blatent, PI non-calls in the AFCCG for a potential  example of the former.

Also, consider the league may have interests beyond win/lose, such as keeping games close to retain viewers, or covering a spread.

And yet again, since some people apparently can't read, I do not in any way, shape or form think the league is scripted.  That would be an untenable logistical nightmare.  But again, 'scripted' and 'fixed' are not the same thing.

If by "fixed" you mean the outcome of games is consciously determined by some conspiracy in the league offices, this is beyond idiotic.

But the United States if full of people who believe idiotic conspiracy theories right now, so I guess believing this would just be more of the same brain-dead business as usual.

No it's all good.

Maybe showing Taylor Swift a lot this season will bring in Taylor Swift viewers for this one time SB that they otherwise would not watch.  But then what?  When Swift and Kelce are not a couple next year?

Again, if zero people viewed this SB or if all 7+ billion earthlings tuned in--it matters not to the NFL.  They sold this SB to CBS 2 years ago.  They can't get more money for the broadcast after it's already paid for---no matter how many watch it.

10 years from now, when the network/streaming contracts are up for renewal, we will know the effect of Kelce/Swift from 10 years prior.  My guess is that it will not have an impact 10 years from now on the pricing/bids.
