So this is interesting. The franchise in Houston will be "USFL" but will drop the Gamblers name in favor of the XFL Roughnecks brand. Good news for me. Now I don't have to throw away my Roughnecks t-shirt. 😊

I guess I'm in the minority that I'd like the league to do well so players who get "missed" by scouts and coaches get a chance to show what they can do.

More people finding work doing what they love is never a bad thing.  Hope it succeeds and provides a decent football viewing for during the NFL's offseason.

Though it annoys me that Michigan's name is "Panthers".  The UFL should avoid all NFL team names and brand themselves uniquely.

Is there a requirement that every attempt at spring football has to have a team in Birmingham?

LOL, even the CFL put one of their US teams there.  Anyone remember the Barracudas?

The Michigan Panthers existed before there was a Carolina Panthers. All the team names the USFL used (until now) were the original team names from 1983-1985 USFL.

I know they would never do it but it would be awesome if young nfl qbs got to play in this. Like Trey Lance needs to play more. I would watch a Lance vs Zach Wilson game in the spring. Obviously, the injury concern but it would be great for developing qbs.

At least undrafted players and cuts get the chance to keep playing. Last year the were 102 spring players invited to NFL camps so the pipeline is established.

I think this is the only way the league survives. With the NFL financing it and it becomes a minor league football for the NFL whereas you mentioned the pipeline is established for these players to eventually make it in the NFL. The only football most fans care about are the NFL and CFB. As history has shown these spring football leagues seem to fail so it will need the NFL helping it.

The NFL will not put a nickel into it. But TV networks want spring programming and casinos want more football to bet on. The best chance for it to succeed is now.

I don't think it will survive. Springtime is the NHL/NBA playoffs plus baseball season is in full swing. The quality of play in these leagues is poor as the top talent will always go to the NFL.

What happened to the Philadelphia Stars? Multiple Championships and great franchise for Spring football.

They made the USFL finals in 2022 but lost to the Birmingham Stallions. The Stars were the only franchise to play in all 4 USFL title games. (2-2)

But they did not make the playoffs in 2023. And sadly they did not survive the merger this season. If the UFL makes it they may revive the Stars in the future.

Actually these spring football games drew ratings that matched or beat basketball, hockey and baseball. And the level of play wasn't as bad as you make it out to be. The playbooks were more basic because teams are put together quickly, but they had the same number of good or bad games as any other league.

I hope it does well. It would be nice to have a successful spring football league. The NFL's offseason is long, so more football is always welcomed IMHO.
