No. You don’t… not in RD1. When has this worked for a team in the last 10 years? The sweet spot is RD2 - RD3.

Your point about running them into the ground is EXACTLY why you don’t spend a RD1 pick on a RB.

Why not? Use them for the 1st 5 years and replenish. Unless he turns out to be Thurman Thomas, you don’t extend.

Nick Ford, center. Pretty good

Again, you’re just making the point for not taking a 1st round RB. A guy you’re taking in the 1st round shouldn’t be someone you think you’re going to have to replace in 5 years. You’re looking for someone that’s a long term building block. A guy you sign to a second contract… most RB don’t make it there and if they do they seldom last.

I’ll just list the last decade(ish) of 1st round RB… hardly murderers row and how many made it to another contract (and saw the end of that)?

2010: CJ Spiller, Ryan Mathews, Jahvid Best

2011: Mark Ingram

2012: Trent Richardson, Doug Martin, David Wilson

2015: Todd Gurley, Melvin Gordon

2016: Ezekiel Elliot

2017: Leonard Fournette, Christian McCaffrey

2018: Saquon Barkley, Rashaad Penny, Sony Michel

2019: Josh Jacobs

2020: Clyde Edwards-Helaire

2021: Najee Harris, Travis Etienne

Thanks. I'll have to read up on him more, but Looks like he has played every position on the line... Not a bad thing at all.

You need THAT GUY now to help Josh Allen. Gurley, McCaffery, Zeke, Ingram were/are difference makers on teams with good QB play their first 5 years. Look at the difference Lombardi Lenny is making in TB with Brady

You’ve listed 5 top 10 picks and then Ingram who was the Heisman winner. There’s not a RB talent like that in the draft… you can’t just take a 1st round guy and assume he’s going to be that caliber of talent because he was selected RD1.

Why not list Chubb, Taylor, Cook, Henry, Mixon and say we need THAT GUY now to help Josh Allen?

The value is horrible taking a RB in RD1.

There’s a lot of depth at OL. Not many elite RBs. Give the the Utah Utes offensive line and I’ll be okay

Who else is watching the Utes offensive line destroy the Buckeyes defensive line

Elite running backs are often made by good offensive lines.  I’d love to see how elite Jonathan Taylor would be if he was playing for the giants or the jets.  Build a great OL and you have your elite RB.

agree to disagree.

How many Super Bowls do those guys have?  Zeke, Ingram and gurley were all running behind very good/great OL.

Elite running backs

1 1st round pick in the top 6.  how many were first round picks?

9 of the top 32 were 1st rd picks and 2 of them hadn’t even played a snap when the list was made (one hasn’t even taken a snap)

I’ll lower the bar and just do playoff appearances…

Gurley had 2 in his first 5 seasons.

Ingram had 2 in his first 5 seasons.

Elliot had 2 in his first 5 seasons.

McCaffrey has 1 in his first 5 seasons.

Fournette will have 3 in his first 5 seasons.

They have a 40 time listed for every player in their database.  Literally every player.  Do really you think they’re all legit?

wait til the combine/pro day.  That’s where we’ll find out what his 40 time is
