Biden and the crises er challenge on the border

Does anyone have evidence that the border states have exhausted all possibilities of working with the Feds or are they just playing childish political games?  Because if there is I'll change my stance.  But until then.........

Well, border security is a Federal responsibility and conditions have demonstrated they've abdicated that responsibility.  The border is not secure, the border is not closed, and the border is not under control.  So with limited to no authority to enforce Federal law what does anyone suggest the States do here?

Well for one not act like a child and ship the migrants off to sanctuary cities.  How about use this as a rally for the mid terms and the 2024 election. Let the GOP regain control and allow them to work on border security. I know this doesn’t solve the problem of today but this has been decades in the making.

Sanctuary Cities Seethe as Illegal Immigrants Actually Arrive.

The surest sign that public policies are simply virtue signals is when the messages don’t cost anything. The easiest way to tell when that signal starts to fail is to watch politicians flounder as the costs start to rise and voters demand relief.

It was free—and meaningless—for progressive churches to post banners calling themselves “nuclear free zones” during the Reagan era. Their dwindling congregations loved it. It was free, after George Floyd‘s murder, to post woke catechism signs on your front lawn, proclaiming “In this house, we believe: Black Lives Matter, women’s rights are human rights, no human is illegal” and so on. Maybe the neighbors gave you high-fives. And for years it has been free for deep-blue cities to proclaim themselves “sanctuaries” for illegal immigrants. That’s changing now that voters want some sanctuary for themselves.

Changes like this happen when voters realize the old virtue signals actually entail serious costs—and that they will have to pay them. That is exactly what’s happening in New York City and Washington D.C. now that Texas governor Greg Abbott is sending those cities a few busloads of illegal immigrants from his state.

These progressive bastions were silent when the Biden administration flew planeloads of illegal immigrants to suburban airports in the middle of the night. TV coverage was prohibited, and the arrivals were secretly dispersed. Abbott’s buses, by contrast, arrive downtown greeted by local TV crews. Now you can hear the politicians screech.

How can they not be a pawn??

Let me ask you was his done to make a political statement?  Yes or no?

What makes you say its political?  Illegals have been getting flown or bussed all over the country.  Just because they don't get to choose where they go?  Sorry, not political, just TFB.  I don't ask to stay at someone's house (much less break into it) and demand to sleep in their master bedroom.

No

Then what was the purpose of sending them to ONLY sanctuary cities and not spread out among other areas of the US?

Why am I WRONG!! 🙄

Because you’re trying to put this on Texas as if this problem started yesterday. But it didn’t. They had a year and a half of this madness in which the Federal Government has abandoned its responsibilities and specifically targeted them. I believe Texas has been more than patient. They’ve waited, they’ve spoken, they’ve pleaded, and they’ve screamed. To label their current actions as political is ignoring everything that’s gone on since the Biden Administration appointed Kamala to fix this. Sorry…but I believe Texas passed desperation a long, long, long time ago.

I’m not blaming Texas.  Where have I blamed Texas for the problem?  All I’m saying is a a political move and a childish one to boot using migrants as pawns.

Read this Op-Ed by Abbott and tell me it’s not political.

You give up easily.

You freak out as if it being political is a bad thing.  For someone who spends a lot of time on a political message board you don’t realize that when a politician does something it’s usually….wait for it…..political!  The fact that a) he’s only sent about 5% of migrants apprehended  and b) he’s only sending them to cities run my democrats and deemed “sanctuary cities his motivation is pretty obvious. He’s showing that the left’s immigration policies suck (and they do). Unfortunately he’s using humans as pawns to make his point.  Sorry you don’t see it that way.

Chef….now come on man! When someone says that an elected official is being ‘political’ it generally means that they are doing things just to get elected. You can’t really believe that Texas officials aren’t sincere in their concern for an immigration problem that they didn’t create but that they’re bearing the brunt of. Can you? On the other hand, if you’re trying to say that everything a politician does is political then your comment is literally pointless. Sorry.

And I agree with Doc here. The ones being ‘political’ are the officials in the until now un-impacted cities who suddenly changed their tune when the impact hit their doorstep. Now THAT’S being political.

So you don’t know what doing something political is.  It’s not ONLY to get elected. In this case what TX is doing is pointing to what’s being done in Democrat led cities. It’s their way of emphasizing what’s wrong with the politics of the left. That’s doing something political. It’s not just to get them re-elected but to make sure their opponents don’t.

Again, because they are sending migrants ONLY to democrat ran sanctuary cities is them making a political point.

Morning Chef

I guess we’re going to disagree on what doing something ‘political’ means.

Political on whose part?  The "sanctuary" cities' part?  OK, I'll buy that.

On both parts. 🙄

You can’t play this game one sided.  If you feel the democrats in this issue are playing politics by, as SoCal said, by changing their tune it’s because Republicans like Abbott forced their hand.

What I think is VERY telling here is that you and SoCal think doing something to score political points it somehow dirty. It’s not. It’s what politicians do for Christ’s sake. 😂

Absolutely.  You say that doing something political is when a politician is doing something to get elected.  I think the simple fact that what Abbott had done has caused leaders of these cities to “change their (political) stance” on illegals in their cities is in response to a move by Republican leaders.  It’s a chess game. It’s politics.

Why have you become so defensive?  It’s not a bad thing. To me the bad thing, and my who original point, is the use of the migrants to make their point.
