Having minority coaches and executives get interviews gives them exposure and gives the owners better familiarity with minority applicants. It isn't forcing anyone to hire anyone so I don't see the harm. As far as the assistant coach to coordinator blocking that seems more common sense. His big issue is people with no NFL experience getting HC jobs over people with many years NFL experience at lower levels. (He singled out Kingsbury as an example on what's wrong with the system in his eyes) He suggested putting in a rule that requires all HC must first be a coordinator, his reasoning is many minorities get those jobs but never move any higher. By requiring coordinator experience first would improve the chance for them. He'd do a similar thing with front office positions too. His argument is you can't go to college without first graduating HS. Not sure the inability to block coordinator interviews is good news for the Bills. If Josh has a good season Dorsey is gone to be an OC. Mike Tomlin had been a DC for one season when he got the Steelers job. Lynn interim OC for less than a season when he got the Chargers job. Requiring them to interview an external minority candidate does not mean that someone else misses out on an interview. No one is asking the government to mandate anything. The proposed experience requirement (which is just a suggestion from a pundit) would be the NFL (Last time I checked a private organization) having job requirements for their franchises to follow. There are many private organizations that have internal requirements for moving up, this would be no different.
