the question .... is this just a fluff piece?

It's not a fluff piece. I absolutely expect improvement. And have no doubt that he'll improve, that he knows more or that he's smart and a hard worker.

I absolutely expect significant improvement. It's reasonable to do so.

How much improvement, that's the question. Plenty of QBs who will never be very good QBs still improve from their first to their second years. On the other hand, nearly every QB who turns out to be a franchise guy also improves. All of them do, really. We just have to see how much.

In EJ's first season, did he look even remotely as good as Josh did last year?

Didn't think so.

In running, no. Josh is in another league. In passing, overall, yeah. Manuel actually had better stats, though basically both looked like rookies. Higher completion percentage, better TD/INT ratio. Josh has a better YPA, but not good, just less bad (5.8 to 6.5). Manuel had a much better INT %, a better passer rating.

On the other hand, Josh did look significantly better at the end of the year. Can't be bothered to break them both down and look at how each was at the end of the year, but from what I remember, Allen at the end of the year was looking better than Manuel. Hard to say, though, maybe it's just confirmation bias on my part. I was hopeful about Manuel, but I think Allen has a significantly better chance to be good.

That’s gross. EJ was one of the worst throwers of the football I have ever seen, I said that while he was at FSU. He was always way to robotic physically and he had the processing speed of a drunken Irish broad.

As soon as Allen hurdled that guy to get a 1st down, I knew we had our QB.  He’s just a first rate competitor - no ego, just win.

I have very high expectations this season,

And at the same time we yelled

don't do hat *****

we need you

Nate Peterman or EJ Manuel?

Nate Peterman or EJ Manuel?

Nate is a natural thrower, he just has the arm of a middle school kid. If I had to take one for a game I’m taking EJ. He had more mobility and could atleast throw it with some velocity.

Equally as gross though.

We'll see. He has an awfully long way to go. We get all this sunshine blown up you-know-where every offseason and preseason. I don't put much stock in this.

It’s be an issue if he was less confident

I agree with this. I don't see confidence as an issue with Allen, so I'm not particularly swayed that he looks MORE confident.

He needs to get more efficient, find the soft spot in the defense, deliver the ball more quickly, and hit the gimmies.

Confidence seemed to be an issue with EJ. I have no idea if Allen will pan out, but confidence is not something I worry about with him.

While there's no doubt that Allen is more talented I don't think their rookie seasons are that different.  They both got thrown into the starting job because of injury/mismanagement/rubber mats and performed poorly. They then performed a lot better but not quite good enough leaving fans thinking the best is yet to come.

There's going to be a lot of upset Bills fans if Allen turns out good.

I think Allen will be good!  Just trying to temper my excitement and remind myself that I thought EJ would be good too.

Sorry, not directed at you. Just in general how a lot of people are betting the under on Allen.

I really don't think that's true.  They'll just find something else to gripe about.

Allen is a leader. EJ, well....
