i didn't lose any teeth from that,

for contact sports I had my orthodontist mold a mouthguard

in addition to protecting the teeth it provided a cushion when i took elbows or other hits to the jaw, saving me from damage

Interesting you should post this.    It seems a lot of players don't wear mouth guards.  I don't know if I am missing something or not.  I am curious about what percentage do or don't.  I guess there is no third choice.?

the orthodontist recommended it from day one, with several $1,000s on the teeth (not really affordable) my folks liked the idea, and I was fine with it

i see the NBA uses it a lot as they like to let it dangle out for 95% of a game

football has been the most adaptable, with a full mouthguard not allowing for breathing through the mouth

Yes interesting.  Because with all the concussion stuff... You'd think mouth guards would be mandatory.  The main purpose is to prevent concussion too.  Not just keep teet in place.

on a rebound i landed lower jaw on top of an opponent's head, i think the mouthguard saved damage to teeth and brain

it didn't help me when an opponent kicked me in the head in one game, didn't blame him....

LoL... I am living proof!  I couldn't remember my locker combo for a week after football practice... And was too ashamed to admit.  Come to think of it, heck my gym shorts may still be in there.  I pity the fool that had to cut that lock off!

for my two doozies i knew i was into protocol, threw up for both, staying awake was the hard part

glad I got two, the second knocked sense back into me, a third and i might be even more sidetracked until the 4th

with migraines i have forgotten combos, one time forgetting all 4 bank card codes when trying to pay for gas at the station....

migraines are quite the trip to bizzaro-world, usually with auras, not quite to the level of what seizures bring out

docs can't do much, i just try to see the warning signs and take it easy

i just hand-write a big sign saying "ENJOY THE TRIP" and ride it out without trying to do much

after a nap i remembered all 4 easily again

My older sister gets them.  So that's how it builds?  The pain to I assume.  Crazy.

I don't get pain as much as others.

It's just like one half of my brain melts and i let myself drift with it

fighting it isn't of much use

had a touch of it on Sunday and found I was in a conversation, an intelligent one, for about 10 minutes and had no recall at all after it was over, and was dissociated while it was taking place

i guess i didn't say anything offensive, the other person would have reacted if i did.

Not sports related, but I had some similar situations related to the stroke zI had 4 years ago.  About a  year before it I got the aura  like a migraine  but without the headache several time. Being a stubborn Pollack, I ignored it. About two weeks before the stroke I had to drive 90 miles back home from a job and had a hell of a time concentrating  on my driving.  The week before the stroke, I got lost driving to a place i had been at least a dozen times before. Took me  about 10 minutes to get my way there. Later that day I was going to a fast food place and  using my phone for navigation.  Couldn't find the place and kept blaming the phone.  After driving for about 20 minutes, I passed a McD's and ate there.  At least the 30 miles home was on the interstate.

make sure you get some medical advice if this stuff is happening

if they can't help you, besides a bunch of drugs that melt under your tongue and have an "x" in the name, that's okay as well

actually another migraine fugue meltdown has occurred over the last hour, weather bouncing around seems to be a common cause for it, the four or so times it happens each year

i know i'm in it and will take an hour-long nap and hope things improve

short-term memory is wiped out, that's one thing i know....

Fine since then. Like I said I was a stubborn, stupid pollack. Recovered except for  slight weakness in my left arm and leg  every 3-4  months or so.  Go to  a neurologist, cardiologist and nephrologist (kidney doctor) now.

When the Sabres traded Andreychuck, Puppa and a 1st for Grant Fuhr I became so enraged I went out and bought a Boston Bruins hat and swore off the Sabres.

That lasted about two days. Couldn’t do it and threw my Bruins hat in the garbage.
