They will shut up and be fine. A passing ripple.

Actually, I think a lot of people are of the opinion that the deal is not set in stone, and that some of the incentives can/will be rolled back.  When there is this much money involved, a lot of people squawk for various selfish reasons.

Also, it sounds like some are trying to make political hay out of the fact that NYC refused to let Walmart in (because they're a non-Union employer), but they open their wallet to Amazon (also non-Union).

The problem is childish people like Socialist Ocasio-Cortez thinks money grows on trees.  You know the problem with socialism, you eventually run out of other peoples money.

The real problem is that idiots like Crazy-Eyes thinks that the government is entitled to the fruits of your labor, to redistribute how she sees fit. To those morons, it's "welfare" and a "giveaway" when the government doesn't tax the crap out of a business.

Spit take warning...................

This is hilarious: "Cuomo defended the deal, arguing that New York has to offer incentives because of its comparatively high taxes." Cuomo: “It’s not a level playing field to begin with.” “All things being equal, if we do nothing, they’re going to Texas.”

So, where New York takes money from their own citizens to make this happen, Texas is not............Got it.

So he’s saying that high taxes are a hindrance to economic growth? And he’s giving a billionaire a tax break and shifting the burden to the working class?

Well done, AOC.

I'm sure now that Amazon isn't coming to Queens, they'll have a much better chance of fixing the crumbling infrastructure.

And I'm seeing plenty of people calling the loss of 25,000 jobs in the area a "win for labor activists."

I think there's some truth this this article from The Atlantic.

Quote

In a period of growing antipathy toward billionaires, Amazon’s corporate welfare haul struck many—including me—as a gratuitous gift to a trillion-dollar company that was probably going to keep adding thousands of jobs to the New York region, anyway. The company has more 5,000 employees in the five boroughs, including 2,500 at a Staten Island fulfillment center and at least one thousand more in the Manhattan West office building.

Maybe you get that growth without gouging the condo market any more than usual.

In the end, this should really solidify AOC as a leader on the left, and short of watching Hillary try to navigate a flight of stairs, she's becoming my favorite leftist.

You go, girl. You're a real firebrand and the Donner Party is going to love you being part of their family.

ALOL

Right, I mean, why would you want to redistribute 25 million of Amazon's operating dollars (low end estimate) into your own congressional district?

Here's your answer!

Because she would rather invest the $3B that they were going to "give away."

I find myself hoping Pelosi puts this moron on an ice floe.

It's almost like Amazon has no idea what it means to provide money to those who are unwilling to work!

C'mon, Amazon! Get with the millennial cool kids!

Okay, this makes no sense. Her "Green Dream or whatever it's called" was specifically designed to subsidize jobs, even for people unwilling to work.

Suddenly she doesn't want to do that?

Weird. It's like she has no idea what she' talking about most of the time.

I’m ok with politician working deals with companies. But after looking at this deal AOC is actually right.

Amazon and Walmart are worse than ALLLLL the good-for-nothing welfare queens out there.

Why is my itty-bitty company paying more in taxes than Amazon? We’ve entered another gilded age and we need to break up Amazon.

That's...

That's not how accounting works...

The state of New York was not going to be giving Amazon $3 billion dollars to come in.  They were going to give Amazon $3 billion in tax credits, which would have been a break on their tax bill, but still a net gain in corporate taxes paid in addition to the 25 thousand jobs averaging 6 figures or more.

Now New York has nothing.  No tax receipts, no jobs, and still hold on to their crumbling infrastructure.

They do not have 3b in assets they can allocate elsewhere.

This woman is a ***** moron.

And that $3B they were "giving away" was tax breaks and future incentives - money they don't already have.

Instead of "giving away" money they don't have, they still don't have the money...and now don't have 25,000 more jobs.  So now that they're not giving away the money they didn't have, they're going to pay for the subway with money they still don't have, while 25,000 people have no need to take it.

Other than that, how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln?

Seriously,  you have to be one stupid m'f*cking moron to support the pullout of Amazon from NY.

You literally have to be an idiot.

Who gives a flying flip if there were tax breaks to win over their business.  That's what states do, they compete with each other to earn the business from corporations.   I don't give a damn if they paid very little in taxes so long as they created lots of jobs.

Think about it, 25,000 jobs.  That is 25,000 jobs where taxes will be paid on from both employees and payroll taxes.   Think of all the lives that you will impact, how many people who would benefit from upward mobility.  These jobs weren't minimum wage jobs, they were intended to be by and large good paying jobs.   Not only would there have been the taxes from the incomes that the state would have received but all the economic benefits that are now lost.  All these people would have spent that money on various things so now you are losing out on those sales tax revenues.  Then there are the residual effects that these jobs would have helped spur more economic activity in that area so many other businesses are now losing out on extra sales because of the loss of Amazon.

This is a colossal screw up of epic proportions.   This idiot AOC has been the best gift that Trump could have ever imagined.    She is handing him a reelection on a silver platter.

This is Leftism gone wild.

Your company must really be successful if you paid more than Amazon's $1.2 billion tax bill in fiscal 2018

Yes.  So Amazon requests proposals from various states/municipalities for a package of incentives to locate there, they all respond with lucrative offers, Amazon makes a selection, and AOC rails against it citing corporate greed.

It was only a matter of time before she lit herself on fire, but she'll get plenty of cover from the MSM.

Do you even understand what's discussed in the article, that mixes income statement, balance sheet and cash flow items as if they're interchangeable?  And you're taking Bernie's word as gospel?  Bernie is now an expert on US tax law and deciphering financial statements?

Square this from the filing itself - Cash taxes paid, net of refunds, were $412 million , $957 million , and $1.2 billion for 2016 , 2017 , and 2018 .  Never mind the hundreds of millions in payroll taxes paid

Actually, I’ll admit that I’ve a very novice understanding of finance. I force my accountant to talk like I’m 5 so I can understand things.

However, when I see billion dollar conglomerates getting breaks that I’m not I get pissed. That’s guns, ammo, and equipment that could be going to the military.

Im all about incentivizing business. However, it’s always the gagillionaires and NEVER the little guys like me who get the breaks.

I see both sides, but c’mon — how is what Amazon is doing worse than what every welfare queen is doing? In scope what Amazon is doing is way more costly.

Welfare recipients get other people's money redistributed to them; where as corporations get less of their money redistributed to other people.

Your argument is built on the foundation that the government owns everything, which is an argument for socialism.

The government is not entitled to Amazon's earnings, regardless of how they wish to repurpose them.

Did you ever consider not posting ever ignorant thought rattles around in your empty little noggin and demonstrating to the world how incomprehensibly stupid you are?

They paid a net effective rate of 20% in 2017...and you compare that to "welfare queen," and complain that you don't get the same breaks?  You're too ***** stupid to get the same breaks, then.

Great point and you’re not wrong.

But I’m not wrong in that every tax break results in less money for the military and at the end of the day I’m a war hawk.

Your argument is no different than someone who wants to take money from corporations to pay for nationalized healthcare, or free college.

It's still the assertion that government owns everything, and is just in restricting private wealth towards your preferred ends.

You legitimize them.
