Browns are going to the playoffs

Recommended Posts

It would be fun to see, but I think Dorsey's hopes got messed up a bit.

This was alwasy the script: Hue sticks with Tyrod, everyone freaks out, the team continues to lose, pressure builds, Hue stands his ground, Hue gets fired at the bye week, Gregggggggg or Todd Haley take over and insert Mayfield and what happened last night happens then.

Sadly for the Browns, Mayfield winning= Hue winning. As long as Hue is the coach they will go nowhere of consequence.

so there are better winning zero games than winning with Mayfield in ?

Tyrod played like absolute garbage.

I think as much as he pretends like he doesn't hear criticism, he heard it loud and clear last night. We all know he's not the most accurate passer, but I've never seen a QB "aim" the way he did in that first half. The fans wanted him out and he knew it.

I'm not excusing his poor play nor am I saying he hasn't fizzled out as a legit starter in the NFL. Merely pointing out that all the pressure got to him. That's actually a bad thing. It's not an excuse.

I do believe that a certain segment of fans here treated him more harshly because of race. I would also be willing to bet that those same people are glad we have Josh Allen and not Pat Mahomes, even as it's clear Mahomes is the better player.

The fact that so many are delighting in Tyrod's failure speaks for itself.

The number of people who are against black QBs is miniscule.

The main reason so many are delighting in Tyrod's failure is because the Bills got rid of him.  Go back over the years on this & other Bills message boards and look at all the trash heaped on guys after they leave the team.  Fans love it when the guy the Bills jettisoned does poorly after he leaves.  We can go back to past QBs since Kelly: EJ who sat most of last year in Oakland & got cut, Cassel's bad games in Dallas & beyond, Orton for quitting, Trent "Captain Checkdown" Edwards, JP and his final appearance giving the game away to the Jets, Bledsoe-especially after he was replaced by Romo in Dallas, Johnson, who we laughed at as he bounced from team to team after he was perceived as stealing millions from Ralph while here, even Flutie by the Johnson fans both when he was here & in SD.

About the only QBs to escape Bills fans wrath are Fitzpatrick, because every time you try to put him down he goes on a tear like this season & is so likeable because he has a wicked sense of humor, and Todd Collins after he left because he sat on the bench for years before coming out of mothballs late one year in Washington.

Right now everyone would rather have Mahomes.  Hopefully in 2 years the answer will be Allen.

The best response I've seen so far on why we passed on Mahomes was by a poster who brought out the point that the team knew they were going to be hiring a new GM and did not want to pick one in 2017 and saddle the new GM with a guy who wasn't his pick.

This is a good post. I'm legitimately trying to understand a logical explanation for the Tyrod HATE beyond race.

I would quibble with Bledsoe. I don't remember nearly as much contempt post Bills. And in his own way, Bledsoe was every bit as flawed as Taylor towards the end of his career.

It is what it is. I don't like ugly QB's so I was relieved as hell we didn't end up with Darnold. I just prefer that people bring their honest motivations to the table.

Thanks.

I remember all the posts laughing at Drew Bledsoe after he got benched for Romo.  One of the most linked to was there was a mock Bledsoe site that called his successor "Tony Homo" by the fake Drew & fake Drew would comment every time Romo threw an incompletion.  The statue remarks, the reminder of the time he threw it away on 4th down etc-Bledsoe was among the most vilified of ex-Bills QBs.

If Hue decides to start Taylor, he should be immediately thrown out of the press conference and out the door.

Hue is just messing with people. Baker is his QB. Everybody knows that.

Not even a fair comparison--Mahomes sat on his butt for year 1, learning, absorbing, being mentored by cagey QB vets, Andy Reid as his offensive muse, etc. Oh, and, he has a legit SB-capable supporting cast around him to bail him out. Allen? Not so much. If anything, it's almost more surprising that Allen looked as good as he did (at times) last week and didn't pull a Peterman, even after Vontae pulls his disappearing act, his WR's are doing their best impression of the walking dead on curl routes, and his center is setting up shop in his lap. That's progress by Allen, and I can't wait to see what he does when everyone around him also improves. I guess that's a long winded way of saying I'm good with the big fella right now.

Race has absolutely 100% nothing to do with it and if you think that race is the only reason anyone could dislike Tyrod, as a QB, then you sir are blind.

There are plenty of reasons to dislike Tyrod as a QB beyond race and I never insinuated otherwise.

I do think the level of hate for this particular guy is bizarre and worth exploring if you're into that kind of thing.

First of all, “hate” is a strong word. Do I hate tyrod Taylor? No not at all. Did I hate his play a lot of times as our QB? Yes I did. I was the biggest tyrod supporter up until the saints game last year. That’s when I had had enough. Was Peterman a better QB? At the time we didn’t know but I sure wanted to find out. We all know how that worked out. I think a lot of times when you see people bash tyrod it’s not necessarily directed at him, but the people who refuse to believe that he’ll never be a franchise QB, no matter how awful is play is...
