Technically, the flood zones come first and are based upon historical data. They don’t make them bigger to get more people insured/paying premiums. They are independent, data based areas and the insurance companies react to them in pricing their premiums. If you’re not IN a flood zone, the premiums are actually relatively cheap. If you ARE in a flood zone, it would be a mistake to skip the insurance, IMO.

Worked on computer system for FEMA and there is a lot of gerrymandering including properties which have not suffered damage to make area "smoother" (their term when I pointed out anomalies) which adds properties to risk set,

Local news headline in Raleigh:  What to do if a hurricane is coming?

My Wife:  Get the !@#$ out of the way.

Love that woman.....

I would have gone with “stock up on beer and wine!” But what do I know?

But seriously, if it’s a Cat 4-5, you run away! We ran from the coast one time and rented what we thought was a condo in Orlando, only to find we were moving into “manufactured housing” for the weekend. We were safer in our house on the coast than in that trailer!  That’s where the tornadoes always go! I’ve seen it on TV!

Or go full board the other way and head to the beach to enjoy Mother Nature's big show!

"It sounded like a train coming...", I said, while spitting smokeless tobacco out the large gap around my only tooth.

That's my wife KD...run to the danger...usually.  She's a CA kid though and hurricanes scare her for some reason.

Way outkicked my coverage.  She's the center of my world.

Amen, brother! Strangely, she doesn’t seem to realize it, or she doesn’t care. That’s the only thing that makes me wonder if there’s something a bit off about her.....

So the government mandates flood insurance, then when you have a  claim, FEMA comes in and disallows it?

Somebody has to kick in.  Not everybody can take, take, take.

They said they addded non-damaged properties to risk areas.  I take they will kick in and never claim out?

The FEMA pot got thinner for this hurricane season....your President took out 10 million in funds and transferred those monies to ICE. Don't expect a Calvary down in the Carolina's come late weekend/early next week...including those temporary housing trailers.

Yeah... Just read that piece of hubris outta the White House.  Or should be called it the Scandal House!

The Corps (USACE) always responds.  We always send people.  I don't usually go because we are on a 24/7/365 schedule and deployment puts stress filling Our work schedule here (only 10 slots to fill 70% of available hours)... And management bellyaches about overtime (OT)... Even if we are sending guys to Iraq, Afghanistan, or Domestic Responses (ie: hurricanes, etc...).  Even with a "short bench" (NOT fully staffed @ this moment) saving an FTE (Full Time Employee) wage, they still complain about OT.  Go figure, they just want our domestic schedule to be jostled for free!!! While they actually SAVE $$$$$ being short staffed.

Anyway, every Corps District is responsible for something with the pendings storm.  Not sure what our's (response) is in Rock Island. We will surely send people & aid... Machinery, pumps, sand bags, etc...

Been downgraded to a Cat 2.

Party's over folks.

Storms do weaken @ night and heat back up in the morning, day.  When will it hit?

Over ocean @ night, it will weaken.

Then again, track is showing it stalling.  High pressure here over Midwest causing it to "block" and Flo not go further West.  Will cause a big rain event as it churns, stalls over coast and draws ocean moisture???

Don’t you need a second tooth to have a gap?

Thought the Scandal House was in Illinois, where all the former governors/politicians go to die.
