He's been getting annual physicals like everyone else--there was no drastic change in organ function. This guy wanted to play this year. He tantrumed. Doc Posted April 12, 2018 Share Posted April 12, 2018 All I read from King was that RI admitted to him that he was pissed about the pay cut (which helped the team, mind you, and RI could have forced them to cut him and signed elsewhere), but that it wasn't the reason he was retiring. And again he took the pay cut a month ago: there was nothing new there. So it's entirely plausible that he went to the doctor for a pre-off-season activites physical, the doctor told him (again) that the stress of playing in the NFL is hurting him, and he finally listened. Maybe the contract had a little to do with it, but again, that happened a month ago. More likely he saw that the team was going with AJM, NP, and maybe a rookie at QB, and decided it was time. King reported this week: When Sports Illustrated's Peter King first reported that Incognito was considering retirement, King added that Incognito said he would contemplate returning for the right price, and that he was talking with the Bills about his deal and had until Sunday to reconsider retiring. Jerome007 Posted April 12, 2018 Share Posted April 12, 2018 Whatever the reason, it still sucks and the Bills lost their 2 best linemen surprisingly since the season ended, and traded Glenn. So DEPTH at the very least is a very big issue, and well, getting starters has become one too! If it is about money, man he's going about it in really bad strange way. But who knows? He could be telling the truth: yeah he's POed at the paycut but it's about his health. In any case, I hope that this calms down and that he comes back one more year! And that Shady pays that 300k! BillsFan4 Posted April 12, 2018 Share Posted April 12, 2018 It's kind of interesting that there hasn't been any type of announcement or confirmation of Richie's retirement by the Bills (I just double checked their twitter account to make sure). I don't know if it's just another cap type of issue that keeps them from saying anything, or if there's something else going on behind the scenes. I believe the issue with Wood was him retiring vs being unable to play due to medical issues, and Wood not willing to say he was the one retiring (for money reasons). The case with Richie seems to be different. He's said straight up he is retiring. I don't really see why the Bills wouldn't acknowledge it (especially if he was truly done playing over medical reasons) and congratulate him on his NFL career. Again there was nothing new that could have been learned about his contract that he didn't already know a month ago. Now if he truly had a doctor's appointment within the past few weeks, something that is easily verifiable, that would support his health reasons claim, along with not wanting to start over with an unsettled QB situation. So I still say option 1 makes the most sense to me. Pitching a fit over taking a pay cut but costing yourself $7M doesn't. As for option 3, the things he told both aren't mutually exclusive. He was probably pissed about the pay cut but decided he had had enough, and tried to see if the Bills would give him a big pay raise on a lark. They didn't so he retired.
