It's marvelous direction and cinematography, putting you right in the action instead of watching it from outside. I've heard where the sequence at 6:20, with Val Kilmer reloading, has been used in training riflemen (although mostly in the sense of "Look, this Hollywood actor can do it right. So can you.") It's a tribute to the training the actors went through - and the blocking and direction - that they got so many little details so right. Too many actors and filmmakers forget that today: get the littlest details right, it makes the viewer part of the story and holds them there.
