The guy a couple of doors down used to stop and pet my dog when I (or we) would walk him (my doggie has since passed away), and when his granddaughters visited, they would run to pet my dog. My first job out of college was as a field engineer for a large general contractor, I was in charge of monitoring the progress of the decking on a four story building which required me to spend a lot of time walking on the steel and climbing 40 foot ladders. For a guy who hates heights, it was NOT a fun time (though it was hilarious for the rest of the crew who liked to make fun of gingerly I walked across the beams even while wearing a harness/safety gear which these guys did not have. Yup -- the other part of my responsibilities on the site was to make sure the iron workers were using the harnesses and safety gear as they worked. Most of the iron workers HATED the harnesses and would just walk the iron (including wrapping their legs around the beams to hold themselves up while welding underneath the beams!) without the gear because it slowed them down.
