Offseason potential cuts/trades that don't fit the scheme?

Recommended Posts

Now that we know the front office is willing to move anyone at any time, who's getting the boot in the offseason? Right now I have...

Lorenzo Alexander-Just doesn't fit the scheme well enough. Is more of an outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme who excels at rushing the passer, not dropping back into coverage like he's asked to do in McDermott's scheme.

Preston Brown-Much like Zo, not a fast enough linebacker for this scheme. I think McDermott will find his leader of the defense in the draft and replace Brown who is in the last year of his contract anyway.

Adolphus Washington-Another player who has gotten into some trouble in the offseason and under-performed on the field. Was picked for Rex's defense, think he will be shown the door as well.

Jordan Mills-Just needs to be replaces cuz he sucks. Hopefully, Dawkins or Henderson can replace him soon.

Jerry Hughes-Could potentially be the next big name to leave I believe. Large contract, solid player but who knows if his attitude/performance is enough to convince the new staff he can wreak havoc at one of the end spots. How he plays the rest of the season will decide this I believe.

Lesean Mccoy-With all of the draft picks we have and a runningback rich class, Buffalo should take a back somewhat early in this draft. Mccoy has a large contract and is approaching 30. Could they try to get something out of him after the season is over? Could be something to keep an eye on. He was dumped once by Philadelphia, could it happen again to him? With the impact rookie RBs have made, his production could be replaced.

I'm sure there are more players I'm missing but these are some of the players that stick out to me that may be moved during the offseason because they may not quite fit into the schemes/future plans here. Thoughts?

McCoy just got an extension for nothing. He's not going anywhere. Stupid extension, disirregardless.

Wood also got one.

And Hughes really seems to be buying in to this and I think we will see who he really is without Dareus. I'd be more likely to expect Lawson moved than Hughes.

Alexander is too old to trade but boy I wish we could. I really like him, though. Leader, nice guy, embodies a good person by all reports.

Brown is ideally a perfect depth backer who is good. Losing him would set us back like it did losing Bradham. Bradham should be our backup to Humber.

I don't think Brown wants to be a backup and will go to another team if he isn't a starter here.

Filling the hole at RG is an underrated need at this point. I expect it to be filled through the draft

sign him early. Don't expect to fill the starting spot. If the opportunity comes to upgrade, upgrade. Draft BPA. Hope for the best

I think McDermott will have MLB as a high priority this offseason as it is an essential part of his scheme. With all the picks we have, it most certainly can be addressed. I think Brown will command too much for a back up role. Just my take. Not willing to sign him for 3-4 million dollars a year.

I think they will transition Alexander into ST/back up MLB/pass rush specialist next year.

Mills has had some bad times here, but I just read he has also not allowed a pressure the last couple weeks. He may be developing into a good RT.

Miller and Washington make sense. I doubt they cut McCoy this season but maybe the following season.

everyone has been looking in to QB's but seen little on LB's. Let's hope the team isn't forgetting.

-----------------

1. Zo will likely be gone. Vet presence, solid character and leadership main reason he's here. Not a "scheme" fit but a competent LB nonetheless. Too old moving forward.

2. Brown is a toss up IMO. He's a FA who obviously won't be tagged. Not a stud but like Zo, competent and is hardly ever injured which is important. What's his price tag?

3. Washington, again a toss up. If no improvement shown he may be gone. Easy rookie contract if McD finds him to be a player of use.

4. Mills? LOL, next!!

5. Hughes? You must be looking at him from a contract perspective because he's quite possibly our best DLineman having a great probowl year for a fair price.

6. Shady? Maybe traded if a great offer is presented. Still plays at a high level when O line is on point. He seems to have bought in so I think he goes nowhere.

I believe Hughes should stay, was just saying he might be shown the door because of his past attitude and penalty issues but he seems to have turned that around this year. Like I said, the rest of the year could determine if he is a player for the future of this team.

My gut tells me Jerry Hughes will be kept around; I don't see him on anyone's bad attitude list and his play varies from good to great.

I also don't see them moving McCoy, however...when this team "arrives", if they are ever going to, McCoy will not be on it. His personal career timing is "off" relative to the team's development timing.

He'll be too old when the team is really getting good, assuming the process works as intended.

Kyle Williams will be flat out gone next year, but as a retirement.

Alexander has had 1 good season out of , what, 11? I was surprised they signed him to come back this season. He's a career special teams player. All the planets aligned for him last season, shouldn't have expected that to happen again.

I wouldn't be surprised if you were right about every player on your list. Hughes may have a good chance of sticking around though.

No matter how this team performs this season, expect a totally different squad next year. Lot of new faces.

In a really shocking move .... if Tyrod plays reasonably well and they could get a third or better for him I could see them saying we will move on. I think there is an exceptionally low probability this happens as I just don’t think anyone out there will want Taylor. I think Beane would jump if there is someone willing to make the deal.

The best worst thing I've ever seen.

why? Because I don't use the English language very well doesn't mean I have low self of steam

would you take Hughes over Alexander? With $$ as a factor.

I may be more likely to keep Alexander and trade Hughes.

Alexander is well respected and a quality individual whom has engaged the community. So has Hughes, but he is just a different type.

Hughes based on talent alone is the easy choice.

Hughes would be gone already if edge rusher wasn't such a highly prized position in the NFL. He does seem to be doing better this year. Maybe he's maturing.

Tyrod, Glenn, Shady, Clay...our highest paid players are in their crosshairs. They said they highlight those players and at the end of the year they will analyze whether or not they fit what they want to do going forward. I think they would like to move on from Tyrod and Shady and get younger cheaper players in the draft. Clay is not a stereotypical TE. Doesn't have the size to be a good blocker. Plus he's what, the 5th highest paid TE in the league? That one seems like a no brainer. And Glenn has been on the trading block all season but apparently they are asking too much. Maybe they lower their demand after the season.

As for older players, Lorenzo and Kyle Williams are on their way out. Lorenzo has shown he can't cover people and will be abused now that the tape is out there. He's a good leader and special teams player still however. I think he makes the team next year but not as a starter. I think either this year or next will be Kyle's last. He's been getting super emotional in his speeches so it makes me wonder if this is his last hurrah.

Other players that just aren't good enough are Preston Brown, Jordan Mills, and John Miller. Easily replaced. Also the entire WR position will be a high priority.

So in conclusion, it's a good thing we have a lot of picks in the next 2 drafts!!
