PFF 2017 QB rankings - Taylor # 7!

He's been a PRO for how long? You're still talking about his ceiling? This Tyrod is as good as he's ever going to get. Unless he gets help from a super-natural wideout like Sammy. Guess what we don't got Sammy. Tyrod maximized.

What?

Has Tyrod improved from last season to this season?

If he has then how is he maximized?

I agree with the poster mentioning Wilson. Give TT Seattle's roster and he will win just as many games and be doing television commercials. They are very similar in so many respects. If he continues to develop in second half I am confident we won't "chase" a quarterback like we were forced to do with EJ. Then we were forced to anoint him prematurly when Kolb was ruthlessly attacked by a rubber mat. We won't have to do this either - no reason to rush any QB we might draft. And they have to get through Peterman before they get the right to challenge TT, and he may have something to say about that. Our QB situation is the best it has been since Kelly.

whoa! slow your roll. defend Tyrod all you like but you can't say he is as good as Wilson. that is downright laughable.

He finished 2016 ranked 19th in Football Outsider's DYAR. That's the rank he is today.

So...no he hasn't improved. At least not yet.

His weapons this year are worse than last years and hes doesnt have the same running game. DVOA cant account for the offense around him so common sense would tell you keeping the same rank means he has improved.

I think Peterman will be the starter next year because he'll earn the position. I think sitting and learning this year will help him, and his skill set will fit the offense. Quit assuming I have certain expectations.

TT can win and I hope he does. Ultimately Peterman to me will make a better QB.

I think Peterman being the starter next year is a relative longshot in comparison to either Taylor being the starter again OR whatever 1st round rookie we draft being the starter.

I also really don't think McDermott's going to make it an open competition at QB if this team makes the playoffs and Taylor plays more like the 4 games I mentioned than the Carolina or Cincy games.

The fact we can't run nearly as well, blocking has sucked, we have way worse receivers, and an injured TE doesn't enter the equation?

I think you're both vastly overrating the talent difference between last year and this year. Are we supposed to be weeping the departures of Justin Hunter and Marquise Goodwin?

Don't forget the fact that, until last week, Tyrod had played against five pretty good defenses. That might be the most important factor.

everyone pretty much knows/accepts taylor is not long term (may even start again in 2018 depending on the rest of this season) and they likely draft another QB to sit behind taylor (and peterman) while getting some bench time and 2019 seems like the year they may see the rookie starting?

I'm just curious as to what you base "ultimately peterman will make the better QB" on? maybe a competition for the starter next off season? a lot of it all depends solely on taylor. if he were to lead the team in to the post season, why even think about the back up taking over?

just my two cents, I see peterman staying right where he is. although I wont go as far as to say "ultimately" he will.

Partly off preseason, partly off college. I said earlier I think Peterman will start and that they will draft someone round one or two.

I like TT, and have said they should let him play to his strengths: manage the game, be careful with the ball, and run when he can. But to me success with that would be limited. A guy that can hit receivers quickly and move the ball consistently has long term greater chance of sustained success. I have doubts TT gets there, and to me Peterman may.

college/preseason?

not enough to "ultimately" make him the better QB.

No but the arrival of Zay Jones for sure. He has caught 7 out of 20 catchable balls. The other 13 passes go against Tyrod in DVOA. It also goes against him when Zay and the other receivers cant get open.

I still want to see Tyrod go up in DYAR/DVOA though. If he can keep playing like he did against the Bucs that will happen. I also still want us to draft a QB next year with our first 4 picks but Tyrod has gotten better from last year IMO. Maybe because he doesnt have run-game specialists designing his pass offense.

I think effective NFL QBs have to be smart and process information quickly. To me that means more than having a huge arm that can throw a ball 60 yards in the air. The limited time I saw Peterman I think he has that kind of processing ability.

Could be wrong of course. And I'd be delighted if TT keeps upping his play. But just my opinion.

I never got the arm strength thing with Peterman. He actually has a stronger arm than Taylor. At least he did during the combine. Tyrod had a 50 MPH arm and Peterman a 53.

cool. I don't/didn't see that in him. not to knock him and he may get his shot but I see him as no more than a viable back up at this point.

First of all arm strength is not adequately measured by mph at combine. There are endless examples of that. In 2012 Cousins had 4 mph higher than Russell Wilson. Cousins has an average arm at best. Wilson has a cannon.

One year Mike Glennon had the worst. One of the only things he has is a strong arm.

Dalton and Cam Newton tied one year. That's not even close.

Second, while Taylor had a 50, Peterson had a 49.

Good idea. It's healthy to just ignore any dissenting opinion from yours.

when they're ignorant opinions, yes, it's healthy to ignore them.

Alex Smith and Russell Wilson beg to differ :flirt:

That's a really poor way of judging whether a QB has improved or not.

Tyrod has a ways to go to be considered in the same sentance with Smith and Wilson.

Really?

I think he has less to go than you think. Neither of those guys are great QBs, on the whole.

Before this year tons and tons of posters pretty consistently made the Alex Smith comparisons, actually.

Of course, we're just being victims of the moment and seeing what Alex Smith has done for 7 games in 2017 rather than the prior 11 years he had in the NFL as a starting QB.
