Feels normal and good to be an anti tanker

Welcome to the last 20 years of being a Bills fan. We all want them to win but we know it's not the right thing to do. Nobody cares that we won 6, 7, 8 games in such and such year. We just know that we didn't make the playoffs and didn't pick high enough to get a QB. I just want it to stop

Or did they? This may be something of a myth. Let's consider that the Bills were not going to draft a QB until '02 and decided to trade their first rounder in 03 for Drew Bledsoe. If they hadn't , their picks could have landed them Byron Leftwich or Rex Grossman. Fast forward to 2004, and the Bills attempted to move up to get BenRoethlisberger. That deal fell through when the Texans canceled it. They moved up to draft Losman that year, but could easily have held on to their future 1st round pick and selected Aaron Rodgers in 05. This was a self inflicted wound, not a result of not having a high enough pick. So while it's true the Bills didn't have a shot at say Matt Ryan or Cam Newton, they could have selected Joe Flacco or Andy Dalton. Add Russel Wilson and Dak Prescott to the mix, and one thing becomes clear. The Bills had plenty of opportunity to draft a QB. You could also throw Drew Brees in there from the 2001 draft, but they chose to go with.... a CB. Mistakes are the reason the Bills don't have a QB, at least as much as having too many 6-10 or 7-9 finishes.

This is a great post. While tanking guarantees you a high draft pick, it does not guarantee you a franchise QB. A talented GM and scouting staff and some luck will get you the QB you want.

While it's true you can get lucky and get a QB in other ways, it's a fact that the majority of successful QB's are high draft picks. It's also true you can win a million dollars playing the lottery or you can do the more proven thing and get a really good job and invest wisely. The right thing to do is to pick in the top of the 1st round

You can't win 10, 11, 12 without winning 6, 7, 8 first.

Except that more of today's top NFL QBs were not drafted top 5 than were.

It's likely closer to 50/50. And it's not just getting lucky. The draft doesn't stop after round one, and it's a fair amount of luck even with the high pick. Taking the right player and not the bust, what the teams ahead of you do etc. If the Bills had the top pick in next years draft, there's still a good chance that they take the wrong guy. The first round draft history is littered with busts. Anyway, there is zero us fans can do even if we wanted the team to tank.
