if i didn't have a job, i'd take my kayak down there with bottles of water for the stranded. don't have a big boat, but the kayak could be nimble enough to get in there to at least get to the front lines

Screw the yak... Don't want to add their rescue problems!

Just get a crappy JonBoat... The crappier the better... Nice 25hp motor (easy to put on, take off, lift by self, and lock in truck @ night), that's the heart and soul.

Anyway... That's the GCICWw, Gulf Coast InterCoastal Waterway, this will put a crimp on shipping that will be felt all the up here... Lot of petrol-chem slides back and forth.

Brazos River... Is supposed to reach almost 60'... Put a lot of stress on downstream infrastructure.

They use sector gates like we do up here. What's happening down there is like Lake Michigan spilling over into Chicago and now where to send it!

7mph and all shipping stops. There will some damage and economic impact felt.

now the Army Corp of Engineers are doign controlled releases on all the dams/resevoirs in the area to prevent them from bursting...going to basically flood downtown Houston even more, got no choice...if that dam breaks they are done for...

We are running dangerously low on codeine here. If we don't get supplies soon its going to be lavender drank by Tuesday morning.

Maybe they could get some scuba gear on and go search for the myriad of prescription pill containers that must have floated away?

How bad is it in Southeastern Texas? Here is what the National Weather Service has to say about what to expect:

They don't know what to expect because nothing like this has ever occurred in the history of the US...enough said.

NWS

This event is unprecedented & all impacts are unknown & beyond anything experienced. Follow orders from officials to ensure safety. #Harvey

Joel Osteens church isn't open for shelter. Bwahahahaha

Mixed reports on that. Some say streets getting to it are flooded, others say local shelters can do more than sticking people in there. Maybe Katrina showed them that using a (former) sports arena is not the way to go.

The neighborhood where Osteen's church is located is in no danger of flooding.
