Punching Bag
http://mmqb.si.com/mmqb/2017/05/22/nfl-power-rankings-offseason-peter-king-part-one He actually mentions him twice in column calling him a slumping and lapsing kicker. He however is of the school anything bad comes from Doug Whaley School and credits Whaley with move when McDermott was clearly in charge. For some reason, the Bills gave a slumping kicker, Steve Hauschka, three years and $8.85 million. I think I’d love someone in the Doug Whaley administration to explain to me why the Bills paid a lapsing kicker, Steven Hauschka, $4 million guaranteed in a three-year deal averaging $2.95 million a season. Sheesh. The guy missed 10 PATs in the past two years and two field goals inside the 30 last year. How does that possibly make you a better kicking team? Head Coach Sean McDermott - Hired 1/12 K Steve Hauschka - Signed 3/9 GM Doug Whaley - Fired 4/
NoSaint
If in 18 months we are missing the playoffs again, this will be a frustrating offseason to try to pull apart and decide where to go and what happened

Jamie Nails
I believe 11, which may underscore his point Safe to assume Steve missed one less on more attempts? Whatever, I am so board, I hope we sign a middling linebacker soon

NoSaint
Safe to assume Steve missed one less on more attempts? Whatever, I am so board, I hope we sign a middling linebacker soonNope. Carpenter had 6 more attempts. So pretty similar in that regard. That's only one metric but for bills fans it's pretty apples to apples as a roughly comparable player they are familiar with for that single stat. ALF
He looks ok in KO stats but 29 of 35 PA , 8 of 10 FG 40-49 yards , $4M guaranteed seems a bit high. Bridge kicker for now I guess.
racketmaster
Hauschka currently ranks as the 3rd All-time fg kicker in NFL history behind Justin Tucker and Dan Bailey. He is just ahead of Stephen Gostkowski. He is an upgrade as Carpenter has been below average the past 2 years. Plus he has a stronger leg for longer fgs and potentially eliminates carry an extra kickoff specialist. This was a great signing.

Yard Monkey
How many PATs were blocked? Seven?I was thinking the same thing. The blocking was atrocious and his trajectory was a bit low....both of which are fairly easy to correct. Carpenter's misses were mental which is way harder to fix...if fixable at all. He was really shanking then like my drives on the golf course....hook one hole and slice the next. Can't just look at the stats for this comparison! You probably did not think you would held accountable for that Doug Whaley remark, did you? Nice research, Hondo!
