Had a cool Mets moment yesterday.

Sitting near the end of a people-mover in the Minneapolis airport, I look up and do an obvious double-take when I see Dwight Gooden. Somehow he noticed either my double-take or my friends Mets hat. And as I'm poking my friend to look up from his phone Dwight waves over to us and says hi. I give him a 'Whats up Dwight" and he continues on his way. The whole thing lasted about as long as it takes you to walk 60 feet and 6 inches.

My only similar Mets moment:

I had to go to Florida for work.  Was about an hour north of Miami.  So I grabbed a cheap ticket to the Marlins game (vs. WAS).  This was Reyes' first season down there, so I packed my Reyes jersey (pinstripes).

During warm-ups, I got as close to the field as I could and yelled, "Jose!!!!"  He looked over and waved and I turned around and pointed to my back and said, "I came to bring you back to NY; we need you, man!"

He laughed and said, "No, no, man.  I'm here now," and went back to warming up.

It was a lot of fun.

I also saw Harper make an error and Strasburg get chased early.  Was a great night!!

Very cool! From what I’ve heard he’s looking and doing well. Thanks for sharing.

Anyone follow Lenny Dykstra on Facebook?

This guy is a hot mess.  No teeth.  Up all hours of the night recording videos of himself rambling.

I seriously think he might be homeless.

Geez. I don't follow him but it seems like every 5 years or so we get a Dykstra story...usually bad with the occasional he's gotten his act together story.

Dykstra epitomized the phrase "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog".  He was a flat-out competitor who got the most out of his talents.

He played with intensity and I assume lives his life with the same (probably misguided) intensity.  Loved him as a Met, sad to hear the latest.

P.S. - a random/obscure Dykstra memory. I remember seeing a highlight from spring training camp 1987 where Franklin Stubbs (L.A. Dodgers) was mocking  Dykstra from the 1986 NLCS series walk-off HR, running and jumping with fists in the air . That was one of the first times I realized how much that '86 team was hated.

He always had a wad of Red Man in his mouth which would explain his tooth loss.I didn't know he was losing it mentally..that sucks!

I followed him on Twitter until I realized it was his publicist. One of my favorite Mets from that era but my god that guy is a space cadet.

Anyone watch the ST game yesterday with Giminez? 19 year old absolute STUD prospect from the IFA draft a few years ago. He is going to be a beast. Just wait until he fills out. They are going to be pretty aggressive with him and start him at St Lucie this year. Hoping he gets promoted to Binghamton say in July or August. Can't wait.

Just heard the news Wheeler won't be in the starting rotation.  I remember thinking about 5 years ago now he was going to really be promising.  Hope Triple A helps.

Triple A is probably better for him than the bullpen. Someone in the starting rotation is bound to get hurt or not pitch well. If Wheeler gets his act together he'll be next man up.

So far everything about Callaway and Eiland have been a breath of fresh air. They demoted Robles and Wheeler based on poor springs as they should have bwen. Meritocracy indeed. Gonzalez started hitting better right at the end of ST so let’s hope that continues into the regular season although I expect his leash is only a few weeks long. Sandy was on NY radio and said if he doesn’t hit that Bruce would be making some starts at 1B.

Other Met nuggets from the weekend ....

Matz pitches great today in his final tuneup....after his first 2 awful ST starts he’s been lights out.

Phillip Evans made the team as the 25th man and well deserved. Not sure what they will do with him when Conforto return off the 10 day DL (retroactive a few days from the last few days of ST.

Mets signed LH RP Fernando Abad to a minor league deal today. I have a feeling that will be their other lefty specialist out of the pen once he’s up to snuff. Not “Abad” signing.

ST is over and Opening Day is on Thursday! I’m cautiously optimistic and as always pumped for baseball ! LGM

I half-watched a few innings of the game today. Was happy to see Nimmo and Rosario rip a double and triple respectively. Most people fall in love with the long ball, but give me the frozen rope every day of the week. I still remember seeing John "The Hammer" Milner hit a rope that rocked the right field wall at Shea and Jesse Barfield hit a line drive HR at Yankee Stadium that was over the wall before you knew it. These days they'd call it exit velocity, back then it was just "Wow!".

I have a hard time seeing how Nimmo fits in, except if Bruce moves to first at some point as you noted. Made me think. The OF situation is still messed up. For the life of me I don't understand how Cespedes can play CF and LF but not RF....where his arm would be more valuable.  It'll never happen but I'd love to see Conforto in LF, Cespedes in RF and Nimmo/Lagares in CF.  I'd probably get sick of watching Bruce play first pretty quickly, but I'd like that outfield alignment.

Anyway, Lets Go Mets!

As much as I love Ces, he for whatever reason will only play LF. He’s perfect for RF IMO.

I think Flores will play 1B until Smith is ready if Agon is that shot, I don’t see Bruce playing more than a handful of games there.

I loved how much they were despised....that team was the most fun to root for of any I've ever followed, by a factor of ten.

I think if Nimmo stays hot, then Wilmer might be riding the pine while Nimmo takes RF and Bruce take 1B.

Defensively, I'd rather have Wilmer at 1B, but we'll want Nimmo's bat in the lineup as long as he's producing.

I'd love to see Lagares take CF and hit with some consistency.  I think he's one of the best outfielders in the game.  Covers a lot of turf and is really fun to watch out there.

Once Conforto is ready, it'll be between Nimmo and Lagares to take RF if Bruce has to man 1B for the long-term.

Gonzalez is toast.  I don't even want to see him take the field - but I know he will.  I hope Dom Smith gets his **** together.  Would be bad news for Lagares and Nimmo, but great news for the Mets.

Tebow's exit is "this" much closer.  It's no secret that I cannot stand Tebow.  I think he's a fraud and a selfish prick, as well as being an anti-Semite and a homophobe who doesn't respect women.

This stupid money-making scheme has pissed me off from day one and I'm glad he's finally worn out his welcome.

To be fair and I know it’s a SSS, Agon started showing a pulse at the end of ST. 4-14. There is no other 1B on the roster. Flores isn’t an everyday 1B, he’s a platoon. I’m willing to be patient (like 2-3 weeks into April).

agree on everything else
