YOU’RE GONNA NEED A BIGGER BLOGThe Media’s Very Bad Year.

Let’s run through a short list at the end of the year.

ABC - Brian Ross misreports a Trump story, is suspended and forbidden to cover Trump again.

CBS - Anchor Charlie Rose fired for sexual misconduct.

CNN - Headlines a breaking news Trump story that turns out to be completely wrong. Staffer fired for sexual misconduct.

NBC - Matt Lauer fired for sexual misconduct. And then there’s the rejection of that Ronan Farrow story on NBC pal Harvey Weinstein.

The New York Times - Glenn Thrush suspended for sexual misconduct.

The New Yorker - fires columnist Ryan Lizza for sexual misconduct.

NPR - Michael Oreskes, Executive VP for News, resigns after allegations of sexual misconduct.

PBS - Charlie Rose fired from there too.

And then there’s Harvey Weinstein. Kevin Spacey. Louis C.K. And more.

NEWSWEEK HEADLINE: Melania Trump Orders Removal of Near-200-Year-Old Tree From White House. (Also the tweet.)

Actual story: “CNN obtained documents from specialists at the United States National Arboretum, which determined the magnolia tree must be removed.”

Liars.

Meliana did make the ultimate decision, so Newsweek is factually accurate.

But I'm sure someone, somewhere (HuffPo, MotherJones, ex-Gawker) is preparing an article on how this is just one more example of Trump's anti-environmentalist agenda.

Other headlines:

"First Lady Removes 200-Year-Old Tree From White House" - Opposing Views.  Makes it sound like she's removing the tree with her bare hands.  Interestingly, Opposing Views says they pride themselves on impartial, factual reporting...so their only excuse for that would be "We're really ****ty writers who don't understand that the tree, and not the First Lady, is the subject of the article."

"A White House Tree Is Being Cut Down At Melania Trump's Decision" - Elite Daily.  Makes it sound like she ordered a hit.  Someone's going to get a fish wrapped in magnolia leaves.

The Jackson Magnolia — planted in front of the White House by Andrew Jackson to honor his wife Rachel — must come down.

"The overall architecture and structure of the tree is greatly compromised and the tree is completely dependent on the artificial support. Without the extensive cabling system, the tree would have fallen years ago. Presently, and very concerning, the cabling system is failing on the east trunk, as a cable has pulled through the very thin layer of wood that remains. It is difficult to predict when and how many more will fail.... Around 1970, it's believed one of the leaders broke off from the other two and was removed, and its cavity was exposed, leaving the entire tree susceptible to decay. As such, the cavity was filled in with cement, a procedure not advisable today, but which at the time was deemed the proper course of action. The concrete did irretrievable damage and in 1981, it was removed and replaced with a large pole and cable system, which remain today, holding up the remaining leaders."

Today, on Twitter, the man whose shocking upset victory seems comparable only to Jackson's, is savaged for the death of the tree, e.g., "Trump is so filth ridden he's rotting out iconic White House Magnolia trees that have been there for hundreds of years. A dying tree is representative of Trump's brutal attack on Mother Earth & science. How Bout they leave the Iconic White House tree and remove trump"; "A rotten dying Iconic White House tree is representative not just of Trump's brutal attack on Mother Earth & science, but it's symbolic of everything that Trump has done to our sacred Democracy since taking office."

The pro-Trump side is not unrepresented, e.g., "The rotting Iconic White House tree is a symbol of the decay of Washington D.C. and liberal politics in general. Drain the swamp, remove the legacy of the Obama's presidency and 'Make America Great Again.'"

Amazing how extreme poverty can sweep America in less than a year after having been eliminated Nationwide the previous 8 years

Quite the framing here: “demonstrators...ignored calls for calm”

Quote

Iranian authorities have clamped down on Tehran after demonstrators across the country ignored calls for calm

Or as Stephen Miller put it:

The protestors skirts were just too short. - New York Times

LOL..................

If Trump had failed to weigh in, he’d be slammed (rightly) for ignoring human rights.

Instead, he’s attacked (wrongly) for “meddling.”

So far, he’s getting Iran right.

And people are being naive if they think the US and GCC aren't helping things behind the scenes. Not directly, but through groups of Iranian military officers.

Notice, the Mullahs have abandoned the country and pulled the RG into Tehran. That's a HUGE SIGN OF WEAKNESS. They've given up on the rest of the country.

The Mullahs are cooked. This is regime change done right.

But it was Obama's giving them all that cash in unmarked bills that allowed the Mullahs to leave the country in unmarked planes in the dead of night. [/tibs#resistatallcosts]

BuzzFeed’s about to blow the lid off the Iran protests, y’all. Can you handle this mega-scoop?

@BuzzFeedNews

People are using an old image of a woman without a headscarf to illustrate the Iran protests https://www.buzzfeed.com/rosebuchanan/iran-hijab-old-picture?utm_term=4ldqpgc&bftwnews#4ldqpgc

An old image! Can you believe it?

If you click the article, you learn that the "old" photo is of women's rights protesters in Iran taken December 27

“There is no link between the photo and the protests. She made her lonely protest just a day before the uprising,” she said over the phone from New York. “We don’t know where she is but she has become an iconic picture of the Iran protests.”

The day before the uprising? Well, then, we’d better stop spreading that photo around. We wouldn’t want to trick people with something so old.
