3rdand12 Posted August 31, 2016 Share Posted August 31, 2016 J.Gay is a good guy, him and his wife are active in Moorman's P.U.N.T. Foundation. Hope he lands on his feet somewhere. Carpenter was on fire in training camp and during games and it would have been difficult to unseat him with a very good performance during the Giants pre-season game. Yep Jordan has been very good on and off the field. But the days of Specialists were numbered. Hope he focuses on FG and get another shot somewhere 34 touchbacks on 62 kickoffs at UC Davis. Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't we the only team sat season to have a kickoff specialist? And, didn't Gay just show the league that field goals weren't really his thing? I think what Doc is saying is the rule that makes Touchbacks out to the 25 yard line makes Gay mostly useless to any team, but he's thinking the league will realize how stupid they were, and cut out that rule within the year, making a KO specialist possibly worth something next year. A lot of teams would use a KO specialist if game day roster spots were not so valuable. 31 of 32 teams decided last year that spot, for an extra backup lineman or DB or LB or RB or WR, etc who may be valuable in packages or due to injury was more important than a guy who kicks deep.
