One day after touting free speech, Jeff Sessions says the NFL should restrict players’ speech

On Tuesday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions gave a speech at Georgetown University in which he said, “Freedom of thought and speech on the American campus are under attack.” On Wednesday, he went on Fox News and said he believes the NFL should restrict players’ freedom of thought and speech.

“In this great land, the government does not get to tell you what to think or what to say,” Sessions said in his speech on Tuesday. The government official then appeared on Fox & Friends Wednesday morning to tell NFL players what to do.

“I think people should stand [for the national anthem],” Sessions said. “I think it should be a formal rule of the league. They’ll have to make that decision but they should be able to say to the players, if you on our field and play our game paid by us, you should respect the flag and the national anthem.”

Different forum. One is a university campus , most people there are students not employees. A protest there would likely have a counter protest. There is none allowed in the NFLs playground. Just what the players have to say. Universities often try to shut out the counter argument. Just like is being done in the NFL . Getting only one side of a story is a problem in a market of ideas. Saying the NFL ( an employer) should have rules that would be in its rights that the company and its employees stay out of politics is not hypocritical . The two scenarios are apples to oranges really.

He's the AG of the United States. It's not his concern.

This forum should put a one month trial moratorium on the "I know you are but what am I defense" that poisons every argument and thread. Just for one month to see if it promotes actual discussion. However many times the what about the Republicans when they did this or what about Obama never adds anything. Ever. Everyone already knows both sides do crazy ass stupid schit. But it's incredibly annoying that everything everyone brings up becomes what about Obama just like it was what about Bush until you tards hijacked this board. ;)

In four to eight years everyone will be saying "at least (x) is better than Trump!" Round and round we go. Political parties no longer serve the interest of the people, they are tools of division wielded by the political class to assure the people are too busy fighting one another instead of solving the real issues we face as a country.

IMO of course.

The US has had 3rd parties that directly changed the outcome of elections with Wallace in 1968 and Perot in 1992 and 1996.

A third party system, like Canada (at federal and provincial levels) leads to majority governments formed with 32% of the vote and the US is too important to the world to play these Mickey Mouse games.

Looks like the Republicans are sliding off the deep end first. Roy Moore is a wing nut religious fanatic and Steve Bannon is going to push more of these crazies in primaries. They already own Trump. Plus there is a real lawlessness in the Republican party with a Judge Moore ignoring the law, Arpaio, this Senate trying to pass huge, major legislation without any hearings or anything. The Stealing of a supreme court pick and more. They elected more crazies and this lawlessness will only grow.
