People just love Carnival Cruises...

We just took a Rhine River 7 day cruise from Basel Switzerland to Amsterdam. Beautiful country, 3 level ship, there was 1 elevator for the geezers, but nobody used it. 160 passengers max on the ship, we had 130, IF it sunk, you walk up to the sundeck, keep your feet dry, and wait for help. I don't see the attraction to those monster cruise ships, with all the horror stories..

I think 95% or higher love the monster cruises. Think the bad stuff gets more pub.

I've been on 5ish carnival/Royal Caribbean trips and all have been great. Never had an issue

Cruises are great. Where else do you get so much value? It's an all-inclusive resort for under $200 a day.

Agreed. Mrs. Hammer and I have been on several, and never a bad experience. Hit some pretty rough seas coming back from Nassau one time, but we still had a blast eating, drinking, and gambling in the casino. You can score some great deals on cruises.

Friends of ours are trying to talk us into going on a cruise next February in Western Caribbean. Not sure how I feel about being on a ship with throngs of other people, especially when you hear about the issues some ships have had with norovirus outbreaks. You cannot beat the price and our friends have been on several and have had a great time, but the idea of waiting in lines to embark/disembark and being around tons of people is not appealing for me while on vacation. The cruise that Marv's Neighbor went on sound more like vacation than on a ship with 3000 + people onboard.

Ryan, Promo, Johnny and JR....can you chime in on the larger ship experience?

I've only been on one cruise, Princess, back in 2007. It was a ship with around 4,000 passengers. Embarking I thought was easy. Disembarking at the end took a while. They had a list of the approximate time you could get off depending on what/where you were going, but you still had to wait for them to call your group. We were at least an hour later than our listed time.

One thing we learned really early was with shore excursions, take the afternoon ones or plan your own. When you book a morning excursion, everyone else on the morning excursions is getting to breakfast at the same time, so it's a zoo. Going with afternoons, we could get up when we wanted, get off the ship for a few hours and sight see before heading back to the ship for our afternoon excursion.

Hawaii cruise was awesome flew to Hawaii got on ship. Cruise out of Boston up to Nova Scotia then to Quebec was another good trip.

Going to Alaska in August trip starts in Seattle.

Enjoy, and give yourself plenty of time to connect in Seattle. August is one of the 2 months when you can count on good weather in Seattle.

Oops no lockout tagout...

My thoughts exactly. At the plant where I work we have this training at least 2 X per year.

Mrs. Lew and I are going on a cruise in November to the Eastern Caribbean.

This will be our second Carnival cruise.

And cruisecritic.com is a great site as JR mentioned.
