Punching Bag Posted December 28, 2015 Share Posted December 28, 2015 I keep seeing comment in press how games like Dallas-Buffalo are meaningless (glorified preseason games) and while it is probably more likely the limitation of the mental processes of the persons citing it SHOULD they be eliminated? New NFL rule: When both teams playing have been eliminated mathematically from playoffs BEFORE NFL Week starts both teams will be entitled to a bye and the teams will refund tickets to all season ticket holders and those who have purchased tickets from approved ticket sources; the NFL nor its teams will refund portions of the PSLs for refunded tickets. Is this a good idea? The games are supposedly meaningless so this should be good correct? Of course the NFLPA is going to insist that players be paid (but since revenues are lower money needs to be recovered from somewhere ....) and there will be arguments whether some players are entitled to some bonuses they would likely have earned if games were played. Less players will be injured, less resources wasted in meaningless travel, gas and tailgates. etc. Of course press will get paid whether they have work to do or not but that is still the case when they make an half-hearted effort to do their job rehashing articles they rehashed before. No games are meaningless when you factor in incentives in player contracts as you noted, opportunities for players to show what they can do on tape for either their current team or some other team, strength of schedule for playoff berths, and the draft order. Why would they ever cancel any games if people are willing to pay to see them? What if a team has home field locked up and they are playing a team out of the playoffs? That Jet game is meaningful. What if Jacksonville played Cleveland then Tennessee and the Houston? They get two consecutive bye weeks to be forced to play week 17. The games are NOT meaningless, just have no difference in playoffs. And no KD no more than you use [REDACTED] daily.
