Breaking news. A Hollywood elitist has disdain for Capitalism! Why is this guys opinion relevant? He created a TV show. Whoop d do.

Come on, I bet he stayed at the Baltimore Four Seasons a bunch of times. He's knows what's going on in the streets.

David Simon, creator of the WIRE, chimes in on Baltimore, capitalism, and Marx.

I guess you haven't noticed the commentary that shows the places with the worst problems have deployed largely socialist mechanisms over the last fifty years to solve their problems.

CITIZENS LINING UP TO PROTECT THE POLICE IN BALTIMORE

That's pretty awesome. Our newsreader in Richmond says there was more media on the streets last night than rioters.

And the mom beating her kid in the head to get him off the street....lucky she is not an NFL player.

As a way to demonstrate that the creative voices in Hollywood don't veer wildly to the left?

Simon isn't a Hollywood guy, he lives in Baltimore where he worked as a journalist for over a decade covering the city's crime beat. After which he created one of the greatest works of television in history -- focused on Baltimore. Considering the city of Baltimore is the epicenter of unrest currently, reading the man's thoughts about the situation and what precipitated it seems relevant at worst, interesting at best.

Baltimore is the Left................... fighting the Left................. over the failed policies of the Left.

and guess what their solution will be ?

THE BLUE-CITY MODEL: The Wall Street Journal has an excellent editorial today, explaining how the Baltimore riots demonstrate the utter failure of progressivism in urban America:

The men and women in charge have been Democrats, and their governing ideas are “progressive.” This model, with its reliance on government and public unions, has dominated urban America as once-vibrant cities such as Baltimore became shells of their former selves. In 1960 Baltimore was America’s sixth largest city with 940,000 people. It has since shed nearly a third of its population and today isn’t in the top 25.

The dysfunctions of the blue-city model are many, but the main failures are three: high crime, low economic growth and failing public schools that serve primarily as jobs programs for teachers and administrators rather than places of learning.

My favorite part of the Obama Era is all the racial healing.

Hope and Change involve a lot more rioting and looting than I expected.

Progressive nutbag Joan Walsh tried to tie that mother smacking her kid to Peterson in this article, and it's crap.

Peterson's boy was 4 years old. This mom was watching her son throw rocks at police.

If you want to puke, read the Whitey Walsh story. It includes charmers like this...

The debate over the moment Graham says she “lost it” is complex. There’s a parallel black debate going on that, as always when it comes to racial issues, is richer and more nuanced. But anyone white who’s applauding Graham’s moment of desperation, along with the white media figures who are hyping her “heroism,” is essentially justifying police brutality, and saying the only way to control black kids is to beat the **** out of them.

I’m aware that a lot of African Americans are lauding Graham, too. This piece isn’t directed at them. Whether they applaud or critique Graham’s corporal punishment, most black people debating the issue acknowledge that the desperate public beating came from centuries of black parents knowing they have to discipline their children harshly, or else white society will do it for them – and they may not survive it.

Wow what a hack this guy is. Conveniently leaving out the fact that whites die at the hands of the po po two to one. Never addressing what actually brings black youth into contact with po po. 72% are born into single mothers. There's no dad around for corporal punishment. He should be more worried about the lack of family structure than whatever the police are doing. That conversation is never going to happen though. At least not from this guy.

I don't know if that's a better explanation that a guy who's spent years covering the inner belly of the city and created a great series still thinks that more of the same is the best option for failed policies.

That's not a man, baby. Joan Walsh will never, ever, ever consider personal accountability a viable answer for anything. She's front and center for race baiting at every opportunity.

Black parents beat black children because of a centuries-old culture of harsh discipline forced on them by whitey, because if blacks don't "wield the club of white violence" against their children, whites will...

What a load of bull ****. I'm not somehow abstractly responsible for the disciplinary habits of a black woman I never met.

And not even racial accountability. It's all white accountability - blacks can't be held responsible for their own behavior, because whitey made them do it. African-Americans are apparently nothing more than unthinking animals - worse than slaves, actually, since slaves WERE recognized as having some measure of personal responsibility and an understanding of right and wrong.

It's far and away the most racist article I've read about race. I've read letters from Virginia slaveholders that were less racist.

If you took from the article that he's calling for more of the same, I'd assume you didn't read it. That said, I didn't post the article as something I agreed with, just something thought provoking.

I skimmed it and still don't buy his sanctimony. Labor substitution has been and enduring tenet of the economy since the industrial revolution started in the 18th century. So thank you for your discovery Columbus.

I wonder if he's thought through the possibility that among the reasons for the displaced lower middle class to fall out of productive society is the increasing supply of mind-sating mental diversions like The Wire episodes?

I tried finding it yesterday - that whites die at the hands of police at a 2 to 1 ratio. Do you have links or anything to that? I would like to use it in argument I'm having on another board.

Whenever I see somebody on twitter say "just binge watched The Wire, Breaking Bad, whatever" - I think - damn, I wish I had the time.
