Rodak- Whaley:Bills "middle class" could get "squeezed out

Recommended Posts

Take this talk to PPP buddy. ☺:)

It's an interesting question that rodak raised: is the capitalist form of organization better than the socialist form when it comes to a football roster? What's the best way to allocate the pie in order to achieve a winning team? Let it begin... :-)

I agree, also. But, this article referred to 2016, as well. I strongly suspect that Freddie will be gracefully cut/retired after this season, and we will all feel good about it. The writing is certainly on the wall.

And, really hoping that he gets to play a game in the post season.

GO BILLS!

Oh, definitely. This is Fred's last season on the Bills.

Haha. Is Collin Brown still around?

For real though, for middle class think any guy not on a rookie contract that wouldn't be in the top 10 or so at his position. Those are guys you should expect to be constantly pushed by guys that are younger and cheaper. Fred, manny and Leo are textbook. Spikes, searcy, etc....You take bpa even at their positions and kind of backfill the roster behind those talent infusions to fill gaps unless you get the hometown discount along the way from the vet.

If McKelvin is middle class, then Corey Graham, who PFF had rated the 5th best CB last year, is what?

IT startup guy who gets venture capital investment payday? Dude who decided to start charging $4.00 for coffee?

How about: Terry Pegula? Dude who ignores assclowns, does his job extremely well, and is now recognized as one of the best businessmen in the country?

Well, this is a good example of what asymmetric price controls can do. It's a star driven league and you have to pay market rate for the stars. But with the salary cap, you can't pay everyone what they're truly worth. So of course the guys in the middle get squeezed out.

This has been the case ever since free agency and salary cap started.

It's just a new phenomenon for Bills fans.

Pegula already protected Freddy's roster spot for this season, and there's no way Rex is cutting a man-corner like McKelvin unless his speed is all of a sudden shot, or they draft an outside CB in Round 2 who can start right away (and even then, Rex loves his corners). Lawson also fits the Rex D - he can cover TEs pretty well. Recall that Rex has a history of working with "middle class" vets in his defense - Landry, Pace, Scott, Harris, DeVito, Cro, etc. It's a nice idea but not likely to happen.

I think they are talking about next year but I agree about McKelvin. He doesn't have a big cap hit and has played extremely well the last couple of years

it probably could depend on his performance this year

really, he is not one of the cornerstone players. if an opportunity to replace him cheaper comes - they would likely take it, but they probably wont cut him just for fun or anything.

Right now anyone that is not mccoy, sammy, mario, MD, and probably clay could be considered "middle class." think the pats with brady, gronk, wilfork for a long time, but being willing to churn even very good players out of the system if an opportunity came along.
