Unintended benefit with Ryan the Bills more appealing to FA'

Not lost on this board is the idea that supposedly free agents find Buffalo a less appealing team and market. While money has always spoken in free agency I do think the Ryan hire helps the Bills. Quality players want money and a locker room or team atmosphere they like. Ryan will build the latter instantly in Buffalo.

Who are the biggest FA pick ups on the Jets now?

A number of people today have alluded to the notion that Ryan's presence in Buffalo instantly makes us a more attractive free agent destination.

I am not sure that is true. It may help in certain ways to some players.

I don't think it's as big an advantage as some think. However, if it helps us sign even one player, great.

You know what really attracts free agents? Cash, and lots of it.

That was Pegula's previous trick with the Sabres, and it can work with the Bills too.

Hell, from what it sounds like, it was a boat load of cash which pushed Ryan over the edge and into One Bills Drive.

Think about it... $16 million under the cap, our defense exchanges Hughes for Alonso, and we lose Spiller. We can pick at the Jets FAs...

I am salivating at the opportunity we have to improve our team and to build on our defense WITH Schwartz as DC!!!

This is absolutely great!

Which is exactly what FA's are going to see -- whether they like Rex or not. The Pegulas are going to spend money. I don't know how much of an impact that has on people's minds, but it's something that they'll notice.

I always thought they wanted great weather and a big city to party?

I don't think the Bills have a free agent problem. In spite of what the player survey says. Pay the money, they will come. Provide the right opportunity to go to the next level, they will see it as attractive.

Didn't they lose Revis and Cromartie? Others?

The Village Idzik traded Revis to the Bucs for a #1 pick after he didn't want to pony up for him. That wasn't Ryan.

Cromartie left the Jets to sign a one year deal with the Cardinals. I assume he wanted to be on the west coast where 8 of his kids lived and only 4 on the east coast. ;)

I agree, the Bills recruit well. They don't lose out on many guys that they really want. KTD was saying that when he spoke with Whaley he said that players hate coming to Buffalo and then hate to leave. Brandon Spikes is kind of the perfect example.

Oh without question this is true; I have been saying this all along.

The entire point of this thread, though, is to suggest that Ryan's star power and name recognition instantly gives the organization a creditability it lacked previously and a new found ability to attract top free agents as a result.

That has nothing to do with who the owner is.

I also think that premise is mostly wrong; Pegula money will attract free agents. Rex Ryan's name on the coaching roster? Not so much.

I hear you, and you're right ultimately.

99% of the time, the only thing that matters. Players will follow the paycheck, it's that simple.
