I've criticized Hackett going back to the first few weeks of year 1 under this coaching staff. I think they would be great for college football and that's probably where they can carve out respectable careers. I absolutely do not think they are cut out for the NFL. When Marrone was hired he said the coordinators he would hire needed thorough NFL experience. He sat in front of the media and with Bills fans watching he uttered those words. The very next day he hired Hackett whose highest NFL coaching title was Offensive Quality Control. That's a joke in and of itself. Marrone was supposed to be an offensive minded coach having been the OC for the Saints under Sean Payton. That to me is the equivalent of Curtis Modkins being the OC under Chan Gailey. It's a largely meaningless title. He's supposed to be some offensive line guru having been a player and coach but our line has been absolutely brutal this year regardless of who is playing QB. The o-line has gotten worse since Marrone took over which is saying a lot. Marrone and Hackett have absolutely no idea of how to use Spiller and it's disgusting. It's 3rd and short and they want to run CJ into a large pile when that IS NOT his game. You have Fred Jackson and Anthony Dixon and the ball should be going to them nearly 100% of the time in those situations. It absolutely boggles the mind. Then there's the Sammy thing where he only gets targeted 3 times. I understand he's being covered by Revis but this kid is going to be elite and he's a guy who is open even when he's covered. Just throw the ****ing ball in his direction and see if he can make a play on the ball. Who knows, there might be a defensive penalty. But, to completely avoid him for most of the game is completely inexcusable. Did Marrone not watch how Clemson used him? The kid is explosive so why not throw a few WR screens early in the game to at least make Revis respect him enough to give him a little cushion? There are so many ways to get Watkins involved that it's criminal to just not even design plays to get him the ball in space. Can anyone tell me what our identity is on offense because I really have no idea at this point. It's pretty evident that Marrone and Hackett are going to run whatever offense they want regardless of our personnel. You would think these guys would have watched how Spiller was effective in Chan's offense and try and incorporate those things. You would think they would see how Watkins was used at Clemson and try and get some of those plays for our offense. Nope. These guys wanted to run a no huddle, hurry up offense their 1st year despite having a rookie QB because that's what they were dead set on doing regardless of our personnel. Then they decide to slow things down in year 2 trying to tell us that's what's best for our personnel? Ummm, our offense isn't exactly overhauled so why change your minds now? These guys just don't know what they want or how to use our most explosive players. I haven't even mentioned EJ who I think Marrone and Hackett ruined. They had this kid playing so robotic and scared. They have taken away his ability to run which made him an intriguing prospect to begin with. Just seems like they had this kid avoiding taking risks that lead to bad plays which I can understand but now it seems like he avoids takin risks that could lead to big and positive plays. I just don't think they are capable of identifying what our players do well and developing an offense and gameplan around those strengths. Just look at the job Kyle Shannahan is doing in Cleveland. He's young but it also looks like he's got a pretty decent mind for this offensive coordinator thing. Am I alone in thinking these things? How do you sit a veteran WR in the biggest game of the year? With this **** offensive line they should spread everyone wide and throw short crossing routes. Let's see who else does that??? I hate the fact that we are right, but Hackett is inept. Marrone and his oline look worse then ever despite the fact that the Bills have been devoting draft picks to it and FA. The only saving thing Marrone could do is fire Hackett tomorrow and show some leadership. Mike Wiliams is a former 1000 yard receiver who wasnt even dressed for the game. CJ up the gut out of shotgun, well we all know what that has lead to. We were running a slight read option with no option for the D to ever think about. Limited targets to Sammy. The offensive line...not being improved. I was watching the Chiefs game against the Pats and was amazed at some of the plays, the motion....the fakes...the mis-direction. How often do we ever put 30 plus points? The talent on this team exceeds the coach's ability to maximize it. Nate Hackett should be getting coffee and donuts for the morning meeting of a real offensive coordinator. Gray Beard Posted October 13, 2014 Share Posted October 13, 2014 I totally agree about Marrone and Hackett. I thought at first that Marrone would work out. I think those thoughts are gone now. I would like to add Schwartz to that list. No defensive imagination at all. For example, spiller had a great season during chan's last year; I wonder if he has gone to Hackett to offer suggestions of what they did well that year.
