In all seriousness, that makes two draft picks they've wasted on kickers in the past three years.

And before you say, "Those are just seventh round picks," take a look at our starting right tackle.

What about the random FA that played much better than expected?

Carpenter being a great find after Hopkins was injured shouldn't be looked at as a negative move by the FO.

The plan was Hopkins to be the Kickoff Specialist and FG kicker in 2013. He got injured they needed a Field Goal Kicker, and got one that was much better than expected.

Would you rather they cut Carpenter and keep Hopkins?

Your argument regarding Hopkins does not make sense. The guy was drafted to replace Lindell who clearly had outlived his usefulness. He did just that and looked great in the process. His injury changed everything, Carpenter has been great, and Hopkins could not regain the job. Hard to find fault with the decision to draft him or the decision to cut him loose now. They needed a kicker, he has great promise which he still may fulfill somewhere else if he can put his groin problems behind him. Move on.

I suppose one or two of these guys (Macky Mac, perhaps) makes the PS. Cut down day is always sad news for someone,. The typically, at this stage anyway, it should come as no surprise.

With regard to Hopkins, since he was a KO specialist, shouldn't he have kicked off much better than Carpenter?

He did.

He did.

To my eyes, he didn't really distinguish himself in preseason, this year. If you have a guy on the roster just for kickoffs, the kickoff should be near perfect time after time. Unless the Bills were working on return coverage, I don't think he did that enough to justify a roster spot.

In Hopkins case, it was bad luck... They drafted him with the intention on using him from day 1. We had let go of Lindell who was our kicker for years and then Hopkins got hurt in pre season and THEN we signed Carp. Carp EARNED the job by having incredible year and has done nothing to lose it.

Unfortunate for Hopkins, but after Carp's year, would u go with young kicker who's unproven or guy who was one of best kickers in league last yr? And there is no room for a KS. Too many tough cuts to make this yr and having a KS over an extra OL or DL or CB

A little surprised by the kickers. Dombrowski has some sloppy kicks but he has the ability to boom it as well. I guess he is really polar, where Moorman, is well Moorman at this point. I am against keeping a kickoff specialist, so I don't mind Hopkins being cut, but I thought he would make 75 since he took all the kickoffs the other night. What is keeping this kid from being able to kick field goals?

I agree completely. I was going to start a thread on this, but figured it wasn't worth it.

If I use a roster spot on a KO specialist, then I want him to kick the ball through and over the back of the endzone every time. There should be like a 2% chance that the ball is even returnable.

It seems like 1/2 of Hopkins KOs were returned.
