I don't think it's about necessity, so much as it's about the guy just being such a special talent. He is certainly a more complete 3 down player than Jerry Hughes, he can do more than just get after the QB. I think he could play in the 4-3 defense as well, that's not a big concern for me... although Agent91 will have seen much more of him than I. The Bills would be foolish to pass that type of player up. I don't see him making it past Atlanta or TB as he would fill a need for them and be BPA when they pick. K-9 Posted February 28, 2014 Share Posted February 28, 2014 As I said in other posts. Mack is a he'll of a player. Getting the privilege of watching ever home UB game he played in, he is special. But a slam dunk pick for last years bills. I do NOT see his fit in a 43. His senior season in college they tried to market him as a jack lb. And he looked way more natural in the 2 point. I have yet to see him as a cover guy you can line up in the slot against Jimmy Graham, Rob Gronkowski, ASJ, or even Ebron. He is gonna destroy any running back and his respective Q.B. so as much as I would like him to stay in the queen city I think there are other options. In a 43 I like Kyle Van Noy personally. You don't see ANY linebacker on ANY team man up against the Graham and Gronkowski in space and shut them down. There aren't any safeties that can do that either. GO BILLS!!! From what I can see through some quick Google information, Cowboys have a pick in each round except the 6th...but, someone might be able to answer that more definitively.... As people have said he is a 3 down LB who happens to be able to rush the passer. In addition, Hughes is in a contract year. If he is a 10+ sack guy again I highly doubt that the Bills can afford to keep him (there's another thread for that though). It's just something to keep in mind. And even though he isnt a pass rusher. What would you do with Manny Lawson. You dont draft Mack at 9 and sit him. And you would be hard pressed to find out what to do with the 4 of them. Keep in mind that this is a kid that led the conference in interceptions as well as sacks; he's a classic Sam LB in a 43, but could also play the Will. We would then have two fast savy mobile linebackers to clean up runners and QB's who squeeze by gaps in our aggressive front 4. It would be a real scary front 7. Having said that, Mack is projected to be a beast as a pass rushing type outside linebacker. I wonder if he might also be projected to fit and play very well in our defense in the same role that I am projecting fro CJ? Just because Mack would be great as a 3-4 rush guy does not mean that he might also be lights-out as a speedy 4-3 MLB. This is beyond my data and sources to say if Mack would work better. It is JMO that if the Bills drafted Mack, they would keep Kiko at MLB - Kahlil would be SLB and Lawson WLB. Kahlil is both bigger and faster than Kiko, but I think (although he is very versatile) because of his ability to stop the run, that is where he would ideally fit. He is not Dion Jordan, Kiki Mingo or a pass rushing specialist. He is an elite pass rusher but he is a complete LB. He can play the run, drop into coverage, etc... To pass on a super star to take your chances on an extra lower pick doesent make sense. If he is that good a team should be willing to give picks next year too.
