That is the responsibility of everyone, not just the government. And it sounds like there's a significant government effort happening to respond to a very unique set of circumstances that created the problem. Just because something bad happens doesn't automatically mean the all-mighty government did anything wrong or has the power to snap its fingers and make all the problems disappear. Was there not a forecast? Do people in Atlanta not know that snow creates a big problem? "COBB PARKWAY! TAKE COBB PARKWAY!" he bellowed. We obeyed and it finally got us home safely. Thanks, Michigan Man. I guess it was too narrow with all the cars on each side... Here she is, on TV interview, in a robe talking at her front door, bellyaching about no plows! A foot on the ground and she is NOT suited up w/a shovel in her hands w/the other neighbors? Take one car out onto the cleared cross street and the others in line will follow! WTF... Mobilize people and help the city out! Go the extra mile. I always clear the sidewalks and curbs/drains/fire hydrant two houses down! It is your civic responsibility! And if you don't want to do it, better have an excuse that you are old and your cardiologist said no way! I got no problem with that! I just dug out the new neighbor on Monday morning. While I was shoveling, I seen her raise here garage door, take one look @ the 3 foot high plowline @ the approach to her driveway and then promptly lower her door. She is older, so I cut her some slack and did it for her! AND always will when I can! "While you are rambling, you can do some work for me!" ;-P All the salt in the world wouldnt have prevented the traffic issues yesterday. Which does bring us back to (in a roundabout way) TSPLOST. Honestly, it would have helped. Temps were above 20, salt would have worked amazingly. Sure traffic would have been snarled, sure there would/have been spinouts and fender benders... Remember one thing: Bumbles bounce! :-) It would have helped, in that the commutes would have been 6 hours instead of 10, but it would not have prevented it. Exactly and streets would be clear and no abandoned cars. I have no problem w/10 hours... That will happened everywhere w/that mass of people. The thing that is un-nerving is your shot of that street all covered in ice. When it snows here I use my tractor to clear snow out at the T intersection of my house and scrape the road approaching the stop sign. I get a few driveways, usually too. I've been told if caught doing this I would be given a ticket and fine. But I still do it. Maybe Atlanta needs to get off their ass and do the same. And when consequences come. Twat I was told You use off-road diesel? The bucket on the tractor may not be the best thing. Sounds kinda stupid that they would give you a ticket! God giveth, God taketh... I am sure people aren't gonna starve after a few days (let alone hours) without some food. Back in the 1994 I made the trip from Champaign to the South Chicagoland area, it normally took 2 hours @ most. I was stuck on I-57 for 14 hours in a blizzard. The roads north were all shut down because the state police couldn't FIND them... So we waited... I am sure if people don't get some fast food for a while they will not die. I'm surprised Cobb Pkwy was easy-peasy as described. It's a major secondary artery and is quite hilly. Usually packed in a normal rush hour, although seems they didn't get to it until this a.m. I was using Google MAps last night and it was basically useless.
